Sailing performance and silent running were paramount in The Idler’s conception, which is why she carries a fully custom North 3Di wardrobe comprising Square Top Main, Staysail, Genoa, Code Reacher, Helix Downwind Reacher, and G2 Gennaker, allowing her to make effortless speed while others slow or switch to diesel. Under sail she also regenerates, with hydro regen delivering up to 7 kW per propeller at eight-plus knots. When the breeze fades, her fully electric propulsion motors let you cruise in near-total silence, with no hum and no vibration—just the sound of the sea, a truly transformative experience.

Her solar skin replenishes the house batteries with up to 32 kW per hour, meaning no diesel generator is required to run the systems, air conditioning, watermakers, and more—ideal for guests who prize calm mornings, quiet evenings, and immersive time with nature alongside a clear commitment to sustainability. The Idler is equipped with a 32 kW solar skin system that reduces emissions and extends time at sea; she has sailed for over seven days while crossing the Atlantic without any generator intervention, all while running air conditioning and every onboard system as normal. Her specification is as impressive as her ethos: a 550 kW 622 volt lithium battery bank feeds twin 120 kW electric power units turning the propellers, complemented by a 24 kW 24 volt lithium house battery bank and two 622 volt continuous-running bow thrusters for precise manoeuvring. Solar capacity peaks at 32 kW across the hull sides, coach roof, bimini, and mast sides, with energy primarily directed to the house bank. Twin 100 kW DC diesel gensets provide redundancy for global cruising. A custom Rigging Projects mainsail halyard lock system enhances sail handling efficiency, while a full suite of seven North Sails 3Di sails plus a Parasailor equips her for every point of sail. Daily life aboard is elevated by an oversize galley fitted throughout with Miele appliances, a second helm station at the fly for commanding views and effortless control, and a Williams SportJet 520 jet tender for fast, fun access to shore and watersports.
