Detailed Description
Specifications
SY KING CHARLES III is a Y Yachts Y8 built in Germany in 2024, registered under the Malta flag as Hull No. 34 and certified to CE Category A – Ocean. She measures 78’8” (23.99m) LOA with a 73’6” (22.4m) LWL, spans a beam of 21’7” (6.58m), and draws 12’1” (3.7m), displacing 38,800 kg (85,504lb). Naval architecture and design are by Javier Jaudenenes (Surge Projects). She welcomes eight guests across four cabins and carries a professional crew of two in a dedicated crew cabin.
Her all Carbon Kevlar construction—extending to hull, deck, bulkheads, and superstructure—pairs with teak-laid decks and a performance carbon mast with a roller-furling V-boom for a potent blend of strength, stiffness, and comfort. Tankage is generous, with 1,300 litres (343gal) of fresh water, 1,300 litres (343gal) of diesel, a 320-litre (84gal) black tank, and a 400-litre (105gal) grey tank. Ground tackle comprises a stainless steel Ultra 60 kg anchor and 100 metres of 12mm chain.
Power comes from a single Yanmar 4LV 250 diesel inboard engine rated at 195 horse power, shaft-driven to a folding propeller, with the propeller specification to be confirmed. Engine hours are 747, cruising speed is 8.5 knots, and maximum speed is 10 knots. Electrical autonomy is supported by a Fischer Panda P19i / PMS 230V-50Hz generator producing 18.1 kVA, with 649 hours recorded. Sleipner bow and stern thrusters, each 150 Ah at 24 V and fully retractable, greatly ease close-quarters handling. Climate control is assured by a Frigomar 62,000 BTU air-conditioning system serving the saloon, cabins, and crew area, while a Schenker Zen 150 watermaker delivers 150 litres per hour (24 V).
The electrical architecture features 12 V start batteries for engine and generator, an upgraded 2,000 Ah 24 V service battery bank, two Victron Energy 24 V battery chargers, a Victron Energy 12 V charger, a 16 kVA inverter, and alternators comprising a 24 V (75 Ah) engine-driven unit and a 12 V (75 Ah) alternator. On deck, sail handling is effortless with four Harken electric three-speed tailing winches and a 24 V Harken retracting warping drum on the foredeck.
Rigged for high-performance cruising, she carries an Axxon carbon composite mast with swept-back spreaders and an Axxon carbon composite V-boom with in-boom furling and reefing, complemented by a Reckmann hydraulic furler. All sails are by Incidence Sails, France, including a mainsail with full-length battens, a self-tacking jib with 95% overlap, a Code 0 system with Bamar electric furling, and foredeck staysail preparation.
Navigation and sailing intelligence are delivered through a comprehensive B&G Y8 MS package featuring two B&G Zeus 15” multifunction displays, B&G Nemesis 9” cockpit displays with controllers, three B&G Nemesis 12” mast displays, a B&G Hydra CPU system, B&G autopilot with control interface, B&G AIS Class B transponder, B&G Halo 20+ radar, and a B&G VHF V100 system with handheld.
Inside, brushed white oak joinery and oak floorboards create a refined ambiance, complemented by leather upholstery in the saloon. KING CHARLES III sleeps eight guests in four dedicated guest cabins: a forward master with double berth, en-suite bathroom, and shower; a midships VIP double; and two twin cabins aft, each with its own en-suite bathroom and shower. The crew area, aft and fully separated from guest spaces, offers a twin-berth bunk cabin for two crew with bathroom and shower, and enjoys its own companionway to the aft deck to minimize disturbance. Opposite the crew cabin, the spacious galley is discreetly separated from the main living area. The saloon unfolds as an expansive, open-plan gathering space with a three-seater leather sofa to port and a dining table to starboard seating eight-plus.
The galley is outfitted with Vitrifrigo refrigerator drawers, a 230 V induction hob and oven, a wine cooler (approx. 46 L), an ice maker, and a dishwasher. Entertainment and connectivity are state-of-the-art, with a Sonos sound system and Sonance speakers, exterior cockpit speakers, Apple TV integration, and a Samsung TV in the saloon, bolstered by a 5G router system (Peplink MAX HD Pro 5G DUO), network switches and access points, and Starlink integration with provision for antenna installation.
Additional amenities include a large aft tender garage with fold-down transom access, a telescopic hydraulic passerelle (2.5 m), a freshwater washdown deck hose connector, a folding sprayhood/dodger forward of the main companionway, and a large overhead cockpit bimini supported by carbon poles. Comfort is enhanced by light grey upholstered cockpit cushions, while shore connectivity is assured by two 230 V shore power cables. The master cabin features an owner’s safe, and night operations benefit from spreader LED lights, six up and two down.
