Overview

A beautifully preserved classic wooden sailing yacht from 1975, this vintage ketch measures 46 feet (14.26 m) and is a one-off creation from the Stizi shipyards in Toulon, France—model Altair—conceived and engineered by the yard’s own naval architect. Designed as a true bluewater cruising yacht, she is built in mahogany planking over oak frames, with triple epoxy sheathing along the sides for strength and longevity, an ocean-going sailboat crafted for confidence offshore.

Romantic in spirit and French in charm, her interior remains wonderfully original, showcasing intact mahogany, cork, and copper that lend a timeless, boutique ambience. A dependable and seaworthy classic yacht, she has safely crossed oceans and ranged throughout the Mediterranean several times, her performance and poise under way reflecting thoughtful engineering and robust construction.

Comfort is a hallmark on board: the spacious, well-proportioned saloon (dinette) offers excellent headroom and beam, paired with a practical kitchenette for easy living at sea—ideal for extended cruising or a refined liveaboard lifestyle. Under sail she is notably composed and comfortable, benefiting from a well-judged displacement-to-ballast ratio and a generous beam that enhance stability and ride quality.

In impeccable order and ready to depart, this elegant cruising yacht is immediately turn-key, as confirmed by a Naval Survey conducted in June 2022—a rare and luxurious wooden yacht for the discerning sailor.

Detailed Description

Beautiful classic vintage sail boat

A beautiful classic vintage boat from 1975 rigged as a ketch, 46 feet (14.26 m), this unique Altair model was born at the Stizi shipyards in Toulon, France, designed and engineered by a naval engineer from the yard itself. An ocean‑going vessel, she is built with mahogany planking laid crosswise on oak frames, with three layers of epoxy protecting her sides. As charming and romantic as a French bistro, her interior preserves original, intact materials—mahogany, cork and copper—evoking authentic heritage with a warm, timeless glow. She is a proven and reliable passage-maker that has already crossed the ocean and the entire Mediterranean several times in total safety, a confidence earned by her structural integrity and sound technical characteristics. Life aboard is remarkably comfortable thanks to a generously proportioned, truly livable saloon (dinette) with excellent headroom and width, complete with a practical kitchenette. Under sail she remains reassuring and composed, benefiting from a not‑too‑high displacement‑to‑ballast ratio and a generous beam. Presented in perfect order and ready to cruise, her condition is confirmed by a naval survey carried out in June 2022.

The vessel is in a perfect general state of repair.

The teak deck was entirely renewed in 2015, while the electrical system was upgraded in 2013. In 2021 the teak deck underwent a complete refit accompanied by thorough interior and exterior painting. She was hauled with full hull service in 2021. The 74 HP 4‑cylinder Perkins engine received a total overhaul in May 2021, followed by routine annual maintenance in 2023. A new outboard motor now serves the tender, new cushions refresh her comfort, and a 2022 Rocna anchor provides steadfast holding.

The vessel is divided as it follows:

The accommodation plan offers two double cabins, including an owner’s cabin forward and another aft; one head is positioned amidships with a large shower, plus an external shower, alongside a fridge and an icebox. The galley is equipped with a refrigerator and freezer, hob, sink with mixer unit, ample worktop, wall units and dedicated cabinetry for stowing galley stores, provisions and crockery. The saloon features a dinette table with an opposing bench/berth arrangement set to port, creating a convivial living space. Joinery is fine cabinetmaking with a glossy finish, in good condition and of classic taste, and the coamings are made of teak wood. Below‑deck and cabin linings are well preserved, fashioned from light‑coloured panels complemented by discrete spot lighting.

The main systems detected on board are the following:

Aft, a teak and stainless‑steel gangway leads to a teak‑faced platform, complemented by a bathing ladder and hot‑and‑cold external showers both aft and at the bow. Daily life is supported by an electric refrigerator, a 220 V boiler and a reliable galley hob. Communications and navigation include two VHF units (Dantronik RT5100 and Scobra), a depth sounder (Raymarine Tridata), a GPS Clipper and a compass, all backed by complete engine instrumentation and a stereo for entertainment. Safety and comfort on deck are enhanced by a self‑inflating raft, a protective sprayhood and practical awnings. The sail plan is comprehensive, with genoa, mainsail, mizzen, a pole and a spinnaker, aided by a Walder‑type boom restraint system for secure sail handling. Electrical autonomy is ensured by a rectifier, a battery charger and a Sterling Power Pro Charge D voltage regulator 24 V 25 A. A 220 cm service tender is included, equipped with a 2.3 horsepower Honda outboard engine, while a foldable external cockpit table adds versatility at anchor and underway.
