Surprise Equipment and Inventory

The Surprise yacht is a marvel of nautical engineering, equipped with an impressive array of deck and sailing equipment designed for both comfort and performance. At the helm, you'll find a custom hard dodger complete with handrails, opening ports, and cockpit lighting, seamlessly connected to a Sunbrella bimini. The vessel is outfitted with Harken Genoa and staysail furlers, as well as a Harken mainsail track system featuring ball bearing cars for smooth sail handling. The Navtec hydraulic vang and backstay adjuster, rebuilt in 2016, ensures optimal sail shape and performance. Power primary winches by Barient, along with five halyard and mainsheet winches, make sail adjustments effortless. The deck is further enhanced with adjustable Genoa cars on tracks, intermediate backstays for the staysail, and a Wichard boom brake. The Maxwell 2500 windlass, with power up and down capabilities, simplifies anchoring, while the Sunbrella-covered cockpit cushions provide comfort. Stainless dinghy davits and an outboard motor hoist with a three-part tackle by Kato complete the deck's offerings.

The sail inventory is equally impressive, featuring a full batten main with a Sunbrella cover, lazyjacks, and a selection of headsails at 135%, 120%, and 100% sizes. The staysail and an asymmetrical spinnaker, along with a reaching strut, ensure versatility in various wind conditions.

Ground tackle includes a 55 lb Spade anchor with 200 feet of 3/8" HT chain, complemented by a 45 lb CQR secondary anchor with 40 feet of chain and 130 feet of three-strand rode. The Maxwell 2500 windlass is a reliable companion for anchoring.

Mechanically, the yacht is powered by a new Yanmar 57 hp diesel engine, installed in 2020 with less than 50 hours of use. The Yanmar V drive and transmission, also new in 2020, work in harmony with a Reverso oil change pump and remote oil filter. The throttle and gear shift cables were replaced in 2020, and the Maxprop three-blade feathering prop was factory reconditioned to as-new condition the same year. A prop shaft line cutter adds an extra layer of protection.

The electronics suite is state-of-the-art, featuring B&G Triton instruments with two cockpit displays for depth, wind, and more. The B&G Zeus 2 Chartplotter/MFD is strategically placed at the helm and nav station, with models from 2014 and 2017. A B&G Autopilot from 2017, equipped with an Octopus hydraulic quadrant drive, ensures precise navigation. The B&G radar 4G, installed in 2017, and an Echomax radar reflector mounted on the mast enhance safety. The yacht is NMEA 2000 networked, with all B&G components, and includes AIS, a Furuno VHF, a backup GPS by Furuno, and an Icom 800 SSB. Entertainment is provided by a Sony stereo radio from 2020, complete with a Sirius receiver and speakers in both the deck and salon. The electrical system includes a Trace engineering charger/inverter, a Sterling DC/DC start battery charger with remote from 2020, and a Balmar battery monitor. A 100 amp alternator with a serpentine belt, solar power with four panels totaling 550 watts, and two MPPT controllers with remote ensure energy efficiency. The yacht's batteries include two 8D AGM house batteries from 2014 and a Group 27 AGM start battery from 2020. Shore power is available with multiple interior outlets and two 50ft shore power cords. LED nav lights and interior lighting, many switchable between white and red, provide illumination, while four 12V outlets offer additional convenience.

The galley and domestic amenities are designed for comfort and functionality. A Force 10 stainless steel three-burner stove and oven, installed in 2018, is complemented by a propane monitor with two sniffers and a remote solenoid. The Frigoboat refrigeration system, air-cooled with a keel cooler, was installed in 2015 and includes a six cubic foot freezer and a nine cubic foot fridge. Two stainless galley sinks, a General Ecology drinking water filter, and a sanitation system entirely new in 2014, featuring a Raritan PH2 head, a 30-gallon holding tank, odorless hoses, a Y valve, and a macerator, ensure convenience. A shower stall with a sump pump, a Shurflo domestic water pump, a Paloma on-demand propane hot water heater, and a Village Marine Tec water maker producing 4-6 GPH complete the domestic offerings. The Espar diesel forced air heat, though needing ductwork attention, adds warmth.

Tankage includes two water tanks of approximately 70 gallons each, a main diesel tank of approximately 60 gallons, a second tank of approximately 28 gallons, a 30-gallon holding tank, and two 20 lb propane tanks.

Ventilation is provided by 12 Atkins and Hoyle aluminum portlights, eight deck hatches, four internal fans, four stainless Dorade vents with scoops, and screens.

Accommodations are spacious and well-appointed, featuring a large V berth with two hanging lockers and additional storage, a double enclosed quarter berth with a hanging locker, drawers, and storage, and a salon with two single berths equipped with lee clothes. The salon boasts new Ultraleather upholstery from 2020, a teak drop-leaf table that easily seats six, and substantial storage. Teak cabinetry and ample handholds add to the yacht's charm, while dedicated storage in the engine room for spares, tools, and mechanical supplies ensures organization.

Spares on board include a windlass motor, oil and fuel filters, diesel cooling pump impellers, and serpentine belts, ensuring preparedness for any situation.
