Description
Purpose-built for serious cruising and professionally customized for extended time aboard, this Island Packet 439 presents a rare opportunity for sailors seeking a proven bluewater yacht that is genuinely ready to go. Robust construction is complemented by thoughtful offshore upgrades, powerful systems, generous tankage, modern electronics, solar capability, a premium sail inventory, and a long list of owner-selected enhancements, all curated to deliver safe, comfortable passagemaking without the delay or expense of commissioning. From effortless coastal cruising to ambitious ocean passages, this beautiful Island Packet 439 inspires confidence, comfort, and true independence—inviting you to cast off now and keep going.
Overview
Crafted for enduring bluewater confidence and effortless enjoyment, this yacht’s hull and deck present a compelling blend of strength, comfort, and thoughtful innovation. The Island Packet molded arch integrates davits and solar panels with clean elegance, while the Divinycell cored deck and solid tri-axial hull laminate with integral ballast deliver robust integrity and a remarkably quiet ride. Custom side-light windows on the cabin house, in lieu of ports, flood the interior with natural light, and a folding Lewmar leather-covered helm wheel maximizes cockpit space when not underway. An AB 11.5’ dinghy paired with a 20 hp Tohatsu four-stroke, electric-start outboard (new 2024) ensures confident shore transfers, complemented by bifacial solar panels delivering 850 watts to keep onboard systems humming. Comfort is elevated by custom fabric cockpit cushions and seat backs with bolsters, while a second Lewmar anchor rides ready with 75’ of chain and 250’ of rode. Practical cruising upgrades include a fresh water flush on the bow, four plastic five-gallon Jerry cans for water, three plastic five-gallon Jerry cans for diesel fuel, and two plastic five-gallon Jerry cans for outboard gas. A full Iverson cockpit enclosure with both Isinglass and screen panels—plus covers for the Isinglass—extends the season and shelters the helm, supported by a chain counter and handheld windlass remote for effortless anchoring. The profile is finished in white gelcoat with gray non-skid panels and a dark gray metallic urethane boot stripe, and underwater lighting adds a sophisticated glow after dusk.
The sail plan and rigging are engineered for range and versatility, led by a Selden telescoping whisker pole and a storm jib set on a Wichard 5/8” carbon stay with ratchet, running backs, and related gear for heavy-weather confidence. An in-mast furling mainsail has been upgraded to a Quantum Fusion Membrane laminate, radial cut for shape-holding performance, while a Quantum Fusion Membrane tri-radial laminate 95% self-tacking working jib makes short-handed sailing superbly easy. When the breeze softens, a Quantum Fusion Membrane tri-radial laminate 170% reacher keeps the boat moving with purpose, and Harken deck hardware throughout ensures low-friction control and long-term reliability.
Under the hood, a Yanmar 4JH80 diesel engine (80 HP) with a 110-amp Balmar alternator shows about 1670 hours and is managed from a Yanmar YD42 multi-function color display engine panel. The fuel system is protected by switchable dual Racor fuel filters with water sensor and an electric primer pump, feeding an aircraft-grade aluminum diesel tank of 160 US gallons. A Northern Lights 8 kW genset shares a dedicated engine start battery, supporting a highly capable house system comprising eight 125 Ah Lifeline 31XT AGM batteries. There is one dedicated starting battery for the engine and genset—also a 125 Ah Lifeline 31XT AGM—charged via a Victron Orion 12V to 12V charger, plus two dedicated batteries in the bow for the windlass and thruster. Shore power arrives through two 30-amp Smartplug inlets with 50’ cords protected by a ProSafe Galvanic Isolator. The networked Victron AC and DC electrical system features a Victron BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor, a Victron Multiplus 3000-watt max inverter/120 AMP charger, a Balmar 170-amp engine alternator controlled by a Wakespeed WS500 regulator, and a Victron Cerbo GX with Touch50 display/interface touchscreen for intuitive oversight. Freshwater and waste capacities are generous with fiberglass tanks of 220 and 50 US gallons respectively, a 12-gallon Isotherm water heater supplies hot water on demand, and a washer/dryer combo in a custom pull-out drawer simplifies service and daily living aboard.
Warm, refined accommodations showcase a varnished maple interior and a varnished solid sapele and maple cabin sole, while the custom gimbaled galley cabinet thoughtfully houses a Smart Breville oven, a Kenyon two-burner induction stove top, and a Smart Breville pizza oven. The aft stateroom’s custom mattress still wears its original plastic cover, never slept on, preserving a like-new retreat. Climate control is exceptionally quiet and efficient with Mabru 7,000 BTU 12V air conditioning in the owner’s cabin and head for near-silent operation, complemented by Mabru 17,000 BTU 120V air conditioning serving the main salon, aft cabin, and aft head. Ventilation and light are superb, thanks to five overhead hatches fitted with Ocean Air Ship Shades bug screen and shade, and four opening ports with screens in the forward cabin, while the cockpit lazarette opens to channel fresh air and natural light into the utility room.
Navigation, communication, and entertainment systems are comprehensive and intuitively arranged. At the helm, a Raymarine AxiomPRO 12S 12” MFD with CHIRP sonar, internal GPS sensor, and North American charts provides crisp situational awareness, partnered with a Raymarine Quantum 2 Doppler radar featuring an 18” 24-mile solid-state pulse array, doppler collision avoidance, safety sector, MARPA, and target trails. Readouts are clear and abundant via four Raymarine i70S multifunction color instruments—three in the companionway pod and one at the nav station—while an Airmar DST810 smart transducer in a low-profile housing delivers speed, depth, and water temperature, casts to a smartphone app, and uses attitude sensor compensation to adjust for heel angle. Precision steering support comes from the Raymarine EV400 Sail Sensor System with a p70 head in the helm pod, and a Raymarine AIS700 transceiver enhances traffic awareness. Communications are robust with an ICOM M510 VHF radio with color display, a Standard Horizon hailing horn, and an Iridium Go satellite phone (subscription required). Connectivity is boosted by a Shakespeare Super Halo cellular amplifier for Verizon, T+T, and T-Mobile, and further elevated by Starlink (subscription required). Entertainment flows through a Fusion MS-AV755 stereo with DVD/CD/AM/FM, Sirius-ready functionality, Pandora control, and a 1500-watt amplifier driving four Infinity speaker sets, while a Shakespeare 3004 Sea Watch over-air HDTV antenna feeds a 50” QLED Smart TV in a custom entertainment cabinet with a Bose sound bar.
