Overview
Designed by Michael Peters, this striking 2027 56-foot motor yacht delivers the rare union of performance pedigree and modern luxury. The signature Michael Peters planing hull pairs beautifully with twin Volvo inboard diesels, settling into an effortless 20-knot cruise and surging to a confident 24 knots when called upon. Crafted in robust fiberglass with low‑maintenance fiberglass decks, the yacht’s lines are as purposeful as they are elegant, its 15‑foot beam lending notable stability and interior volume, while a draft just over ten feet underscores offshore poise. The result is a refined, seaworthy fiberglass motor yacht that rises onto the plane with grace, tracks true, and rewards the helmsman with agile, composed handling.
On board, the atmosphere is at once sophisticated and inviting, with light‑filled living spaces that make the most of the yacht’s generous proportions and a layout created for effortless days at sea and unhurried evenings at anchor. Two well‑appointed heads add welcome privacy for owners and guests, while thoughtful storage and practical systems speak to extended cruising. With capacity for approximately 550 gallons of fuel and 200 gallons of fresh water, this planing motor yacht is equally happy weekending along the coast or stretching its legs between island harbors. Lying in the United States and designed expressly for connoisseurs of premium motor yachts, it is a compelling statement of contemporary craftsmanship—sleek, capable, and beautifully resolved in every detail, with the unmistakable hand of Michael Peters evident from sheerline to wake.
Detailed Description
Description
She delivers the deck space of a 70-footer, the performance and seaworthiness of a pilot boat, and the comfortable accommodations you expect from a 50-footer, while also providing the docking simplicity of a center console. Designed by Michael Peters for maximum comfort, performance, and enjoyment, the Outback 50 features an open transom with a standard removable security railing that transforms the cockpit into a true infinity deck. Available in two or three stateroom configurations suitable for couples, families, or onboard guests, she balances versatility and elegance with effortless poise.
Overview
Versatility, efficiency, and performance define Outback Yachts’ “form follows function” philosophy that has reimagined recreational yachting. The Outback team of seasoned industry veterans partnered with the legendary Michael Peters Yacht Design to create a remarkably versatile, exceptionally efficient, and impressively seaworthy yacht. Equally at home on day outings, weekend adventures, or open-water cruising, she blends expansive outdoor deck space with practical interior accommodations to deliver safe, comfortable passages. The flagship Outback 50—actually 56 feet in length—unlocks endless possibilities. She draws only three feet and carries a keel that protects the running gear, so an unintended grounding need not become a catastrophe. Powered by a pair of 480 hp Volvos, she delivers speeds to 24 knots, and a custom-built version can be delivered in less than a year.
Her unique design places the engines and generator beneath the aft deck rather than under the salon sole. A conventional straight-shaft drive eliminates the complexity of pod or V-drive alternatives and employs a much shorter shaft than other conventional shaft-drive vessels. Fuel and water are located over the center of buoyancy, keeping trim consistent regardless of fluid levels and concentrating weight where it most benefits performance. The result is a ride that is smooth, quiet, and exceptionally comfortable, unlike anything else in her class. The Outback 50 is also extremely economical, offering an approximate range of 1200 miles at trawler speeds.
Hull, superstructure, and main deck construction
The hull topsides and superstructure are engineered as foam-cored FRP composites, with outer skins infused with vinylester resins and E-glass reinforcements throughout the structure. Below the waterline the hull is a solid FRP laminate, transitioning to foam-cored FRP above, and all molded FRP components are finished in a high-gloss Cook 941 gelcoat. Areas subject to concentrated hardware loads are reinforced with high-density foam or solid laminates, while molded propeller tunnels are recessed into the hull to reduce draft and shaft angle. The main deck is fully cored, combining flat and cambered sections with transverse and longitudinal support from girders and hat-section stiffeners. A one-inch stainless-steel rubrail runs around the perimeter at the sheer, including the transom, and the exterior gleams with a high-gloss, low-VOC Polynt gel coat accented by a high-gloss black boot stripe. Light grey non-skid finishes the walkarounds and foredeck, and below the waterline a Seahawk epoxy barrier coating and bottom paint are applied with a limited three-year osmosis warranty, complemented by Pettit Prop Protect “barnacle barrier” on underwater metals. For effortless access, two hull entry doors are positioned to port and starboard.
Propulsion
Power comes from twin Volvo Penta D6 480 HP engines, six cylinder, common rail, electronic shift, and Tier III emission certified, driving four-blade bronze propellers through Aquamet #19 propeller shafts with Tides Marine dripless rudder and shaft seals for clean, reliable operation. Confident close-quarters control is delivered by a Sidepower SEP130 24VDC bow thruster with proportional speed control paired with an SEP stern thruster, while Zipwake Dynamic Control System KB 600-E interceptors refine trim and ride. Mechanical integrity is enhanced by an integrated fresh water heat exchanger cooling system, Groco raw water intake strainers and thru hulls, and a 24V 80-amp alternator on each engine. The engine room is meticulously appointed with an engine room blower and vent ducts, an FRP non-skid sole, a gloss white finish, fully insulated sound damping material, and anti-vibration mounts on the engine stringers, with precise command ensured by a Teleflex BA-200 hydraulic steering system serving two stations.
Plumbing and piping systems
Meticulously engineered for reliability and serviceability, the installation is neat, fully accessible, and clearly labeled. A single 550-gallon aluminum fuel tank sits forward of the E/R bulkhead, served by two 2-inch fill lines—one to port and one to starboard—and monitored by a sight gauge, with fuel polished through two Racor fuel filters. Bilge management is robust, with four Seaflo 24V bilge pumps equipped with three-way switches and Ultra float switches, complemented by a Beckson manual bilge pump. Fresh water is carried in two stainless steel 100-gallon water tanks located at the sole, with a crossover and shutoff valves enabling filling from port or starboard, and pressure delivered by a Jabsco Par Max 4 24V fresh water pump feeding two Jabsco accumulator tanks, plus two additional Jabsco accumulator tanks to ensure steady, reliable flow. Hot water is supplied by a Whale Marine 10-gallon 120V water heater, while a Trionic 14.5-gallon 24V sump tank services the head sinks and showers. Waste is contained in an 80-gallon black water tank, evacuated via a Sealand T series 24V discharge pump and monitored by a Sealand Tank Watch 4 depth indicator. For washdowns, a Jabsco seawater deck wash pump is complemented by three freshwater hose coils positioned at the bow, stern, and flybridge, while a Whale Twist Deck shower graces the transom. Everyday convenience is further elevated by an LG front-load washer/dryer combo unit.
Electrical
The yacht’s electrical system is anchored by a Northern Lights 12 kW generator with a sound shield, managed from a remote start/stop panel at the lower helm and quieted further by a gas/water separator muffler. Power distribution is centered on an AC/DC main control panel near the lower helm, with shore connectivity via two Marinco shore power outlets rated 50 amp at 110V/220V, a Kraus & Naimer transfer switch for forward or aft shore power, and a Promariner galvanic isolator with a comprehensive bonding system. House energy reserves comprise four 24V 160/AH AGM batteries supported by a Mastervolt Combimaster 24/2000 120 inverter/charger and a Mastervolt Chargemaster Plus 24V/80 dedicated to house service, while engine starting is assured by four 12V AGM batteries kept at peak by a Mastervolt Chargemaster 12V/35; system integrity is enhanced by the Mastervolt “Battery Mate” isolator and a Mastervolt converter 24/12-24. Climate control is delivered by a Dometic Marine Air reverse-cycle air conditioning and heating installation configured for tropical service, featuring two remote-mount compressors feeding three air handlers for a robust 48K BTU capacity. Convenience and safety are elevated with 110 V outlets distributed throughout the accommodations, flybridge, Infinity deck, and engine room, all GFCI protected and waterproof at exterior points. Illumination is both efficient and extensive, with BCM LED interior overhead lighting, effective lighting in all machinery and storage spaces, Hella main deck and exterior safety lighting, BCM LED exterior overhead Infinity deck lighting, and Hella LED navigation lights. The vessel operates on a 24V house system.
Deck fittings and equipment
Anchoring is handled by a Muir Windlass VRC1250 24v with two-station controls and a stainless-steel chain stopper, paired to a rode of 150' of 3/8" ACCO BBB galvanized chain and 150' of 5/8" nylon anchor line, all working in concert with a Bruce-style 66 lb. anchor and a molded FRP pulpit featuring a stainless-steel anchor channel and roller. A tinted plexiglass venturi screen softens the breeze, and dining unfolds around a table featuring an I G Hi-Mac solid surface tabletop set on stainless steel pedestals. Completing the arrangement is an FRP and stainless steel–framed plexiglass hatch that brings light and practicality to this elevated retreat.
Infinity deck
Flexiteek decking spans the entire deck and swim platform, establishing a refined, low‑maintenance foundation. Movement is effortless via a stainless‑steel hinged, soft‑angle ladder with an integrated handrail and Flexiteek stair treads, while two FRP bench seats to port and starboard provide generous seating with lift‑top storage. Entertaining is elevated by two multi‑position tables with LG Hi‑Mac solid‑surface tabletops set on stainless‑steel pedestals, complemented by a large integrated storage cabinet beneath the galley window.
Access and service are superbly engineered, with a large engine room access hatch powered by a dual‑ram electric hydraulic lift, a quick‑access engine room hatch with ladder, a large generator‑room access hatch with a dual‑ram electric hydraulic lift, and a dedicated lazarette access hatch. All hatches drain to the waterline, and the aft storage compartment benefits from natural ventilation. At the transom, a stainless‑steel three‑piece railing system offers multiple configurations and is paired with stainless‑steel rub‑strake protection at the transom corners. Water access and docking are equally considered with a stainless‑steel retractable swim ladder with a cover on the platform and heavy‑duty folding stainless‑steel cleats on the platform. Safety and surefootedness are further assured by a stainless‑steel 1.25‑inch safety handrail running from the Infinity deck to the bow.
