Overview

Ideally, a boat should be a work of art, an engineering masterpiece and a gateway to fun, relaxation and adventure. However, economic and practical considerations dictate that boats that meet this ideal are rare. Shaka is one of these rare boats.

To fully appreciate Shaka, one must know something of her designer and builder, Barry Martin of Assegai Marine. Barry has spent his entire working life of 40 odd years designing and building boats. At Assegai Marine, Barry founded a company which created a line of legendary boats, from his first – Assegai – launched in 1992 to his latest – Zulu – launched in 2014.

Without exaggeration, Assegai Marine has earned legend status on Australia’s east coast among the top Australian skippers over the last twenty years. Hand built by the most uncompromising craftsmen, the vessels are a reflection of Barry’s passion and unwillingness to compromise and are a symbol of the way all things should be created.

Barry is truly the Enzo Ferrari of game boats, blending form and function into classic masterpieces. Such is the meticulousness with which Assegai Marine builds its boats that design and construction times are long – approaching two years – and ownership is rare.

In common with Ferrari, Assegai Marine demands patient owners and rewards them with exclusive craftsmanship.

Shaka is hull Number 9 of only 12 boats built by Assegai Marine and remains the largest and flagship of the Assegai family. She is the pride of the Australian sport fishing fleet and arguably one of the best sport fishing vessel in the southern hemisphere.
