Overview

RED HEAD is unique as she is an unusually attractive LRC with shoal draft and is actually beach able.  Designed so she may rest on her own bottom with both props protected by keel shoes.  A truly wonderful yacht for extensive exploring in out of the way places. The present owner has maintained the yacht without regard to cost, and she is truly turn-key.  If you are considering a yacht to go extended cruising, and tired of the same old look, this excellent yacht deserves your personal inspection.

Broker Notes and Valued Comments

Notably, Red Head has recently received an extensive makeover to her interior. Once known as the “Boys Club”, with beautifully styled Scottish Pub feel, she is now offers a sensational Nantucket Beach Cottage feel with bright and vibrant colors, all new soft goods, new overhead panels, unique zinc bar top and, most importantly the den has now been converted to a proper guest stateroom.  The refit has left many followers in awe. Looking to her exterior, her present owners have utilized all spaces very keenly and with the simple addition of modular furniture and toys, offered the fun and enjoyment factor much becoming of this unique vessel.

Accommodations and Layout

Accommodations for the owners party in two very large and spacious staterooms with additional guest accommodations available via the convertible double berth / dinette in the pilothouse. The forecastle cabin also has a convertible double / single berth for crew however the fit and finish of this space is worthy of guest use.

The master stateroom is on the upper deck, behind the wheelhouse, with full king island berth, in a large, bright and airy area.   It should be noted, this wonderful area includes large windows for light and ventilation, and access to a private veranda.  Forward of the stateroom is a large master head with walk in shower, and dressing area with large hanging lockers both cedar lined, along with numerous drawers provide great storage.

The guest stateroom is on the main deck area, just below the pilot house and forward of the salon.  Recently remodeled, this room has a queen walk around bed to port and an “L” shaped desk / dresser combination forward and to starboard. Further aft of the desk is a large hanging locker. The head servicing this stateroom is just next door and hosts a bathtub / shower arrangement with vanity sink, vacuflush head and plenty of storage for sundries. This space is also utilized as the vessels day head.

The Main Salon is aft on the main deck with access to the aft, line handling deck, via double doors and access to the side decks though watertight bulkhead doors. The salon and galley, just forward, encompass the entire aft half of the yacht.  During her extensive refit in 1998 to 99, then again just recently, these areas were totally redone. To allow greater square footage footprint of the salon and upper decks all were extended very smartly into the aft cockpit. The salon hosts an “L” shaped seating arrangement aft and to port. This space doubles as a lounging and or dining area with a custom high – low table with large opening leaf, allowing comfortable dinning for up to 10 people. There is a built in entertainment arrangement to starboard that houses a large flat screen TV which raises and lowers into the cabinetry. One will also find exceptional storage of the entertainment library and certainly, up to date systems including satellite TV, Bose surround Sound stereo systems and Blue Ray DVD player.

A Hearthstone gas fireplace in the aft starboard corner creates a charming environment during chilly Maine summer evenings. Forward to starboard is a sideboard / bar arrangement with wine cooler, drawer storage and additional cupboard storage above for glassware and china.

The salon floor is broad planked in 100-year-old pine from a barn in Maine, hand selected and stained dark to accent the rooms ambiance.

The Galley, as you might expect, is well equipped including Aga propane stove with electric oven, Miele dishwasher and DeLonghi convection oven.  Custom built in wine racks accent the many features of the galley / bar arrangement.

Pilothouse is quite large and located forward of the master suite.  Superb 360 degree visibility, with Freeman doors on each side and a Portuguese bridge.   Wing controls are on both sides.  The pilothouse features Stidd chair, and large U-Shaped settee, which may be converted to a pilot berth.

Her engine rooms are in the basement! This area is easily the largest we have ever seen on a 65 foot yacht.  Broken into three separate areas; cargo, workroom with laundry, and air con room. There are separate engine rooms to port and starboard amidship with full headroom and superbly organized.  The vast majority of the equipment was replaced during her refit, including the Caterpillar 3208’s.The more recent refit including complete replacement of the chilled water air con chiller and compressor units.

The Main cargo deck area deserves a special mention, with RED HEAD’S wide body configuration there are two large hydraulic cargo doors on the foredeck that open to 11 feet by 9 feet, which allows room for three full size motorcycles or a small car.
