Overview & Owner Comments

In 1923, a group of Columbia Yacht Club members formed a syndicate to build and race a boat to bring the Gold Cup home.

She was designed by George Crouch and completed by Henry B. Nevins in 1924. This faithful reproduction of the "Miss Columbia" hull was built by Bill Cooper & Son of Massachusetts and conforms perfectly to the lines of the original Gold Cup racer.

Commissioned by well-known raceboat collector, Phillip Sharples, and used on the St. Lawrence River, the boat is taken directly from George Crouch's original drawings.

This quest for exacting standards is what drove the design of this boat such that is sounds. acts and handles just like its namesake.

History

This boat was custom built by Cooper's Boatyard as a faithful reproduction of the original Miss Columbia in the mid 1990's for a collector by the name of Phil Sharples.

Phil was a large supporter of the classic raceboat hobby and had great attention to detail. It has been under single ownership since 2010 in the Muskoka region of Ontario and remains in excellent condition.

George Crouch's original Gold Cup racing designs dominated the Gold Cup and Contest circuit in the 1920's and 1930's.

Other notable boats he designed were "Baby Bootlegger" and "Teaser".
