Description

Heesen Galactica is part of the successful “Pelican Bow” series and was the Dutch shipyard's flagship vessel at the time of launching. The 9m moulded beam and more depth in the hull creates more volume for a more spacious interior and met the owner’s desire for larger rooms.

Galactica was designed as a full custom yacht and in conjunction with several design studies it was decided to incorporate continuous windows on either side of the owner’s stateroom, rather than the oval windows of the Heesen 47m. The G.A. was designed with a long continuous salon and a large TV screen on the starboard side allowing for multidirectional viewing throughout.

The exterior shows the typical ‘feather tip’ styled overhangs, allowing for low railings and a good view of the water when seated on the aft decks.  The clients’ requirements were very strong with regards to entertaining and dining on the sundeck. With seating for up to 14 guests, there is generous sun and wind protection.  The top speed was 26 knots in a semi-planing hull and she is equipped with an ultra-modern zero-speed stabilization system. The forward deck features a giant tender garage with a hinged door allowing for a large tender of up to 24 feet in length overall. Galactica’s sporty profile has a traditional coloured blue painted hull.

Walking in from the main aft deck, the yacht impresses with her contemporary spaces and elegant touches of classical details. All through the yacht you will see several ways in which materials and finishes alternate: gloss and satin, light and dark, plain and textured. For instance Pear wood with Ahorn burl and Vavona burl wood. Contrasts are used in order to create a more lively effect.

A rich luxurious feeling is accomplished by lots of detailing in woodwork, such as the dining and coffee table of Makassar, with Intarsia of Pear wood and Figured Ash, or the scalloped mouldings in cabinets and bespoke furniture. Upholstery is made of rich textured fabrics like silk, velours and wool which invite to touch.

Special features of Galactica: the settee of the salon is shaped in a full beam big oval space with curved sofa’s, being the heart of the deck, meant as an intimate place for gatherings of family and friends. Another eye catching statement piece is the staircase swirling around a centre column made of Vavona Burl rising up to a ‘open flower’: both a unique piece of art and functional lighting object, made of stained glass and satin nickel.

The columns are used as classical elements that emphasize shapes and areas in almost every room: columns mark the cabinet as a focal point in the sky lounge, on the main deck they corner the full beam salon and extra settee aft, on the lower deck columns are besides the beds, washing basins, emphasizing the TV, etc...

The yacht’s master state room is very private, only accessible through the library / cinema room.
Exclusive feature in the owner’s bathroom is not the common marble, but precious stone in Honey Onyx and details in dark Honey Onyx throughout: flooring, walls, bath and wash basin.
