Overview

The forerunner of the Swan 651, her Frers pedigree is unmistakable.  Massive nautical makeover at Berthon 2007, and now with another pit stop completed, she is ready to sail.

Construction

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

·         The GRP hull is believed to have been built as a one off or as a limited production run and is thought to have been produced from a male plug.

·         The hull is painted in 2 pack polyurethane.

·         The deck is GRP, balsa core and there is a teak deck laid over which has been replaced during the yacht’s lifetime, the panels in the cockpit were replaced (2007).

·         Her superstructure is GRP and the exterior finishing is in Teak and stainless steel. 

·         Epoxy primer and antifouling (2014).

·         All the deck hatches were replaced (2006/2012).

·         Bottom antifouling, including removal of previous coats, on a yearly basis.

 

Keel & Rudder:

·         She has a lead ballast keel which is GRP sheathed and a balanced rudder. 

·         The rudder was dropped and the bearings replaced (2012), and further, rudder bearings changed in March 2015.

·         The ballast was rationalized (2012).

·         New Derlin rudder bearings (2014).

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

·         Yanmar JH 4 cylinder turbo charged 200hp diesel with conventional reverse reduction gearbox replaced by Berthon (2007).

 

Maintenance & Performance:

·         Engine Hours: 1,550 as of 16-01-14.

·         Engine has been little used and serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. 

·         New engineroom insulation (2007).

·         Steering and rudder assembly overhauled (2012).

·         Replaced 3 x brass intake eng/gen valves with stainless steel (2014).

 

Propulsion & Steering:

·         3 bladed Maxprop propeller – standard maintenance performed (2014); replaced zincs on prop, prop shaft and negative ground for engine.

·         Stainless steel semicircular bar forward of steering wheel to ensure secure passage between cockpits.

·         Replaced all axes on all steering line pulleys (2014).

·         Replaced 6 of 8 steering line pulleys with 4 x new in Derlin and 4 x old, with replaced bronze maintenance free bearing, instead of weak and laborious needle bearing as before (2014).

 

Other Mechanical:

·         Extensive tools specific to the yacht.

Electrical Systems

Voltage Systems:

·         The yacht has a 12v, 24v and 220v electrical system. This was all checked and updated 2007 including new breakers and AC and DC panels.

·         240V ring main throughout the yacht.

 

Battery Banks:

·         4 x 6 volt batteries forward and 4 x 12 volt batteries aft all linked to give the 2 x systems.

·         Separate 12 volt battery for the electronics.

·         All batteries were new in 2014.

 

Battery Chargers:

·         Mass 24 100 Mastervolt battery chargers 12v and 24v, and invertor.

 

Alternators:

·         2 x Alternators at 24v.

 

Generator:

·         Onan 11 kW Generator (2007).

·         Generator Hours: 1,800 as of 16-01-14.

·         Replaced 3 x brass intake eng/gen valves with stainless steel (2014).

 

Other Electrical:

·         A bonding system was installed 2007.

·         Distribution panel and isolators with a charger control and monitoring system (2006). Volt metres and ammeters are fitted on the panel.

Plumbing Systems

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:

·         Pressurised water system throughout the yacht with accumulator tank (all upgraded 2007)

·         Manual fresh water pumps in kitchen and in heads compartment.

·         Salt water foot pump in kitchen.

·         Hot water via engine driven calorifier with 220 volt immersion.

·         The majority of the piping for the plumbing has been replaced (2007).

·         Saltwater deck wash pump (2009).

·         Replacement of many seacock valves, with plastic, and non-corrodible versions in 2015.

·         Engine and generator seacocks and valves replaced with stainless steel versions in 2015.

·         Replaced 5 x brass valves with plastic ones – heads compartments and galley (2014).

 

Watermaker:

·         Schenker watermaker, 35 litres per hour, 24v (2012).

 

Bilge Pumps:

·         2 x Bilge pumps (2014) and 240V Salvage pump with manifold to all compartments.

Tankage

Fuel:

·         2 x Fuel tanks.

 

Fresh water:

·         4 x Water tanks with supply and return pipes.

On Deck:

·         SeeMe radar reflector.

·         3 x Danforth Compass.

·         Raymarine ST60 repeaters at companionway giving depth, speed, wind.

·         3 x Raritan manual loos aft all (refurbished 2007).

·         3 x showers with electric pump out (2007).

·         Mirrors above sinks (replaced 2007).

 

Entertainment:

·         JVC stereo and CD player

·         Clarion 120w waterproof stereo speakers.

Accommodation

Summary of Accommodation:

·         The interior is executed in cherrywood with teak and holly soleboards.

·         The floor structures were refurbished in 2007.

·         The interior was re-varnished and the soleboards restored and re-varnished in 2012, and further, interior and floors varnish refreshed where necessary on a yearly basis.

·         Blue and white striped upholstery in main saloon and dark blue berth cushions through cabins all (new 2007).

·         New mattress for the crew double berth (2012).

·         New mattress for the crew cabin seating (2012).

 

Description of layout from forwards:

From forward – crew cabin with 2 x berths, work bench and locker (unvarnished), with entry to the starboard upper and lower berth cabin with large hanging locker.  To port is a mirror image upper and lower berth cabin with en-suite heads with new stainless steel basin and loo.

 

The main saloon is very spacious with a U shaped seating area to port with folding dining table and central island unit with seating at the table for 8 and a drinks locker on the opposite side.  To starboard is a bench seat with navigation station aft of this. The day heads compartment can be accessed from the forward port side of the saloon.

 

On the port side aft of the main saloon is a large galley in a U with a return by the saloon with a large food preparation area. Beneath this is the refrigerator and the area behind houses the Force 10 cooker, twin sink with manual and pressurized water supply and lots of storage. 

 

Aft of the navigation station are 2 upper and lower berths in a passageway cabin with full access to the engine and generator. 

 

The owners’ cabin is light and airy with 2 large single berths port and starboard with dressing table and set between.  There is a mass of storage here, together with en-suite heads compartment with a bath, storage and a basin with both manual and pressurized water.

 

All interiors and floors restored and repainted in 2012.

Deck Equipment

Rig:

·         Masthead cutter headed sloop with aluminium keel stepped aluminum rig painted AWL-grip grey built by Formula Spars.  The rig was replaced at Berthon in 2007.

·         Rod standing rigging, the rig is supported transversely with 3 spreaders in line.

·         Running Rigging in Dynema and Spectra.

·         Fully battened mainsail with Harken ball bearing cars and lazy jacks.

·         Deck gear by Harken and Antal.

·         Navtec backstay tensioner and vang (2007).

·         Staysail stay.

·         Baby Stay.

·         Spinnaker pole also in grey AWL-grip single ended.

·         Antal jammers for mast halyards (2012).

Note: All deck gear is uniformed with Antal cars 13’-14’ and the Harken winches & blocks 06’-08’.

 

Winches:

·         4 x 53 2 speed self tailing halyard/at mast – manual.

·         2 x 60.3 self tailing halyard/at mast – manual.

·         2 x 48 self tailing halyard – manual.

·         2 x 908.3 self tailing primaries on winch pads that were rebuilt 2007 – electric.

·         2 x 908.3 self tailing secondaries – manual.

Note: All the winches were replaced with Harken winches in 2007.

·         2.2oz Spinnaker (heavy) overhauled (2007); lengthened with new clew and head rings/webbing and perimeter finishing (July 2013).

·         Kemp 1.5oz cruising chute with snuffer (2008).

·         Neil Pryde dacron staysail in Bainbridge DAC.10.12 (2012).

·         All sails reinforced for blue water sailing, and the tack, clew and head webbing changed (July 2013).

Broker's Comments

HUCK FINN II was designed by German Frers as the forerunner of the Swan 651, and you can see the resemblance in her powerful hull shape and voluminous interior.  She is a superb family cruising yacht. 

 

The current owner, a well known Italian solo sailor, had HUCK FINN II refitted and prepared for ocean sailing in all weather in January 2012. The yacht is continuously updated and optimized by his professional racing team. She offers superb good looks, powerful sailing and a great interior layout.

 

Note: Generator, engine, pilot, winches, pumps, desalinator and anchor windlass well maintained, and worn parts replaced on a yearly basis.
