The Lagoon 55 is a large, well equipped, performance cruising catamaran. The Lagoon 55 is one of many cruising catamarans designed and built by Jeanneau (JTA, Jeanneau Technique Advances). The designers were Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prevost who used their knowledge of offshore racing and the latest racing sailboat design technologies to produce a cutting edge cruising catamaran, ahead of it's time. JTA built numerous catamarans designed by these two designers from 1987 thru 1996, including the Lagoon 37, 47, 55, 57 and 67. About 20 of the Lagoon 55's were built. All were composite (cored sandwich) construction, for lightness and strength. The majority were built using fiberglass & epoxy. A few were built using Kevlar and epoxy. This particular Lagoon 55 is constructed in fiberglass and epoxy. The Lagoon 55 is 55 ft LOA, has a waterline length of 50 ft and a beam of 30 ft. The displacement is 28,600 lbs, which for a 55 ft cat is light! It also has a relatively shallow draft of 4.0 ft. The Lagoon 55s were designed with four private cabins and heads and two spaces forward which can be crew quarters or gear storage cabins, (accessible via deck hatches). The port side space on ONDINE has been converted to a workshop with an extensive tool and spares inventory. They are being sailed around the world from the clear blue waters of the Caribbean, Atlantic & Mediteranean to the South Pacific. They have proven to be strong, very fast, comfortable boats with plenty of room for ship's equipment, people and recreational gear.
The present owner has performed extensive refitting to ONDINE in the last 3 years, including:
Both Yanmar diesels rebuilt
New Transmissons both engines
Leisurefurl system overhauled and updated
Heavily built aluminum arch system carries solar panels, wind generator, dinghy davits stern anchor and drogue reels.
This Lagoon 55 ft catamaran, with its size, (50 ft waterline and a high bridge-deck clearance), spacious accomodations, dual helm stations and speed capability, will keep you and your family or guests comfortable and thrilled for many years. If you are looking for a large, performance cruising catamaran, you must have a look at her.
Hulls, deck, coach house & trampolines This Lagoon 55 measures 55' LOA by 31' beam. Robust rub rails have been added to each hull to help protect the hull sides from knocks and bumps. Construction of the hulls and coachhouse is a composite cored sandwich of fiberglass and epoxy for light weight and strength. The design is one offering relatively low freeboard and a low coachhouse for minimum wind resistance. The hulls, deck and coachhose are white Awlgrip. Visibility from almost anywhere onboard is excellent. Eight large windows and the double sliding glass doors offer excellent visibility from, and natural light into the full width salon. The deck has twelve Goiot opening aluminum hatches. The two hulls each contain two staterooms, each with a private head and shower. All have headroom of 74" or better. Three of the sleeping cabins (port aft & starboard fore & aft), have double berths. One cabin (port forward), has two single berths, (over & under). Most forward in the port hull is a laundry/storage are aand a dedicated workshop completely stocked with every imaginable part and tool. Most forward in the starboard hull is a cavernous sail and storage locker.. Amidship in the starboard hull is a spacious galley. Amidship in the port hull is the navigation station and control panels for the ships systems, electrics, navigation and communications. Each hull is fitted with a midship Goiot aluminum escape hatch located beneath the ladders. |
Cockpit & Saloon The Lagoon 55 affords it's crew and passengers lavish accomodations inside and outside. She is spacious, light and well ventilated. She offers excellent all around visibility from the deck, cockpit and saloon. The robust welded aluminum tube frame and fiberglass hard, bimini assure security and plenty of shade throughout the cockpit area. The cockpit affords comfortable seating for at least ten people. Custom wcushions for all seats assure comfort for everyone. A large varnished teak folding table to starboard enables all around seating. The cockpit sole is teak, and can be kept beautiful and secure to walk on. There is a handy beverage refrigerator in the cockpit, (next to the port helm instrument console. Deck and Hull Equipment DECK AND HULL EQUIPMENT Hull, forepeaks, and spaces between cabin soles and keel have been 100% filled with U.S.C.G approved flotation foam, from the forefoot, (bow), aft approximately twelve feet. Also, the forepeaks are completely filled from the keel all the way vertically to the inspection port, about four feet about the waterline.. This will not only incredibly increase the impact/crushing strength of both bows in the event of collision, but also will prevent the boat from sinking if grounded on a reef, and having the hull torn away. The foam will retain the watertight integrity of the boat, allowing the vessel to not only survive a grounding/collision/impact, but also to continue on with its voyage unassisted to nearest safe port to effect permanent repairs. New Radar Arch, spanning stern, from swim step to swim step, approx 27’ wide, arch mounted equipment includes:
