COMMENTS

The Swan 70 quickly became an international sensation after the first yachts were launched.  Another success from the Nautor/German Frers team, the Swan 70 is a high performance blue water cruising yacht with racing pedigree that offers exhilarating sailing in all conditions while not overlooking all the important amenities that one expects on a world-class cruising yacht. 

Stay Calm was delivered in 2001 and has been subject to a rigorous maintenance program, recent highlights include:

• New Future Fibres PBO standing rigging (2015)
• New 12mm teak deck (2011)
• New hull painting (2009)
• New Westerbeke generator (2009)

Currently based on the south Coast UK, Stay Calm is available to visit by appointment

HULL AND APPENDAGES

Construction

The hull is of single skin construction built in a female mould using glass/aramid hybrid fibre reinforced vinylester laminate with local carbon fibre reinforcements. Structural bulkheads are of Nomex honeycomb cored carbon fibre epoxy pre-preg construction and laminated to hull and deck. Stiffener flanges are unidirectional carbon lay-ups.

Forespar Marelon sea cocks on through hull fittings closing flush with hull.

Flag Blue Cove stripe and boot top stripes.

Bottom International Micron 66 black hull treated with Gel shield epoxy primer.

Blade foam filled with carbon fibre/epoxy skins and hollow carbon fibre stock, supported by two self-aligning JP3 bearings

Steering Systems

Dual steering gear, sheaves provided with guards to prevent jamming. Lightweight steering quadrant bolted to rudderstock. Two 41” (1.04 m) destroyer type composite wheels, 2.0 turns H.O to H.O. Pedestals with roller bearings and friction brake. Emergency tiller stowed in lazarette.

Transom

Hydraulically controlled transom door/bathing platform with teak surface.

Transom hatch for shore power cables, etc connections in Lazarette.

DECK

Main deck is of carbon fibre pre-preg sandwich construction with Nomex honeycomb core

Laid teak, 12 mm thickness, on side and bridge deck, cockpit sole and seats, glued and vacuum bagged without screws.  New teak decking fitted in 2011

Flush hatches on deck. Fore deck hatch 80cm x 80cm hinged to open 180degrees
