DICKIE&SONS - the yachts from Scotland

DICKIE&SONS is an old Scottish shipyard which vessels are still presenting in the marinas in Europe and America. The shipyard was found by Archibald Dickie, who was born in 1860. In 1885 he moved to Tarbert (Scotland), where he soon began to build boats. Five years later, his company grew, and by the 30s of XX century it became a large shipyard that produced the motor cruise ships. His sons continued their father's work.

The main area of activity of DICKIE&SONS was the construction of fishing vessels. In 1923, one of the sons of Archibald, Peter Dickie, moved to North Wales, where he founded his own shipyard. The old company remained in place. Thanks to the cooperation of two shipyards the large yachts were produced, some of which are still crossing the oceans. They built the motor and sailing vessels, designed the brand new yachts that later became the real rarities.

The DICKIE&SONS company went into a decline after World War II, and in 1964 it was liquidated. Despite the closure, the shipyard has left a rich legacy. Many yachts built here are still shown at exhibitions, and some of the vessels are maintained in good condition. After the reconstruction such yachts can travel long distances and perhaps are more reliable than the modern ships.
