LE COMTE

LE COMTE - the Dutch yachts produced for the American market

LE COMTE is a Dutch shipyard that existed from 1956 to 1993. It was opened by Adolf LeComte, who was previously engaged in exports of the Dutch yachts to the American market.

The company was opened in the city of Jutphaas. Initially they focused on the classic yachts made entirely of wood, in collaboration with the design studio John Alden Co. Since 1961, the basic material for the hulls became fiberglass, and in 1965 many of the projects were upgraded. Three years later, the company opened a new plant in the city of Vianen (on the Lek river) and expanded its production. During the following years, LE COMTE actively built the military and commercial boats and yachts, fishing trawlers due to which the company gained valuable experience in work with fiberglass. In the 60s they opened the sales office and a service center for maintenance of yachts in New Rochelle.

The shipyard did not become a family one: in 1994, the company's owner retired, closed and sold the company.

During the period of work LE COMTE built a lot of interesting yachts - both made of wood and fiberglass. Among them there are Malabar 33, Nordfarer 42, Medalist 33, Ocean Racer 52 and many others. These sailboats had high speed and great design.
