SANGERMANI

SANGERMANI - the oldest family shipyard in Italy

SANGERMANI is an Italian shipyard that was established in the late 19th century. The production was started in Mulinetti, in a village on the Riviera di Levante and not far from Genoa. Ettore "Doreen" Sangermano decided that he should build a boat in his workshop for his newborn son, Cesare. At that time in Italy there were not the small-scale sailing ships for pleasure, and only the richest families could be engaged in yachting. The history of the great shipyard began.

Ettore was fond of sailing and several times won the competitions. Later his son Cesare also took part in the competitions. The production of yachts did not stop - it was a family business. By the time the family has grown, and the demand for ships has been increased.

In 1934, the Sangermani brothers decided to move the yard in Rapallo. During the war, the brothers worked at the Riva Trigoso shipyard. After the war, the production at the family shipyard was resumed. While working on Riva Trigoso, the brothers gained invaluable experience in the construction of large ships. In the 50-60s the family built several RORC class ships. This shipyard built the luxurious vessels for some the richest people in the world (for example, Gitana IV for the Rothschilds).

The ship designs for the company were developed by such architects as Laurent Giles, Sparkman & Stephens, John H. Illingworth, Angus Primerose, Anselmi Boretti, Reiners, Philip Rhodes, Buchanan, Alan Gurney, German Frers, Carlo Sciarelli and Gary Mull.

Since 1978, the shipyard switched to the craft production of composite materials. A new stage in the development of SANGERMANI has begun. In 1981 they built the first catamaran. The shipyard has expanded the range of ships and increased the market.
