DECK

The deck layout is characterized by uncluttered areas because of the automated sailing technology that include the sheets running underdeck to the captive winches. The two tenders are kept on the foredeck and are launched and retrieved by a concealed hydraulic crane. A spacious workshop with diving compressor and full deck spares inventory is located under the foredeck.

A hydraulic stern passerelle and a retractable gangway on the starboard side allow for comfortably boarding and bathing.

COVERED OUTER COCKPIT

CYRANO’s deckhouse creates a remarkable space, which is the focal point of the social activity. The teak-floored aft part is like a shaded open cockpit, featuring electro-hydraulically operated side windows that can be fully retracted and two large tables that can seat up to 16 guests.

At night, with the electric doors open into the carpeted deck saloon, the whole deckhouse area is transformed into a large living space.

Walk Through ( Interior)

UPPER SALOON

The deck saloon includes sofas on the port and starboard side, both with coffee table.  The starboard side coffee table can be converted into a games table. The helm station can be completely concealed when not in use and a kitchenette with a food service lift, from the galley, also provides convenience for guest entertaining.  The TV system is operated on a lift mechanism.

LOWER SALOON

Down a few steps, brings you into the full width main Saloon.  A formal dining table seats 8 guests and the food elevator provides convenience to help ensure service goes smoothly.  There is also a sofa, coffee table and desk area and day head for guests.

CONVERTIBLE 4th GUEST CABIN

This area of the lower saloon can be converted to a single berth.  There is a cleverly concealed partition wall which can be pulled out to create a 4th cabin complete with en-suite.

GUEST ACCOMODATIONS

The concept for arranging the guest accommodation forward in the yacht, was to ensure that guest comfort was optimised, especially at anchor, by maximising the distance from the machinery space aft, as this is the quietest area of the yacht and also benefits from natural ventilation with the large hatches open.

The accommodation comprises of a full beam MASTER SUITE with two queen size beds and two large guest cabins. Large hatches flood the interiors with light and are electro-pneumatically operated either from the cabin or from a central console. CYRANO’s finishing is blonde teak throughout the interior.

MASTER STATEROOM

Comprises of 2 x large single beds ( ¾ double beds ), a large desk/vanity area and a sofa for relaxing. The Master Bathroom, is full width with 2 entrance doors, his and her sinks, toilet and bidet each.  The jacuzzi bath/shower is centerline with a full mirrored wall.  The bathroom is grand and opulent.

GUEST STATEROOMS

Both guests rooms have the same layout and design.  Both comprise of  2 x single beds and a Pullman berth.  The vanity desk and stool is next to the wardrope.  The en-suite bathrooms come with sink with plenty of storage, toilet, bidet and shower stall.

GALLEY

The Galley is large with plenty of storage and work surface.  The walk-in fridge/freezer allows for full stock up on long distance journeys.  There is also the food service elevator, providing service to the 2 decks above.

CREW ACCOMODATIONS

To enhance the guests’ privacy, the large and comfortable crew and service area is placed aft of the main saloon.

The machinery of CYRANO has been carefully positioned and mounted to control the noise and vibration.

For the same reason, the machinery rooms and the accommodation areas have been fully insulated and the auxiliary generators are placed in the stern. The two Caterpillar diesel engines developing 310 HP at 1350 rpm have been chosen for their low noise and vibration.

CREW MESS

The crew dining table provides seating for 6/7 crew, with tv and music station and control board where all the alarm systems and cctv display units are for various areas of the yacht. The crew mess and galley are open plan.

Access to the engine room with a custom-made submarine door, is also in this area.

CAPTAIN’S CABIN

A large cabin with en-suite with a double bed, 1 Pullman berth and desk area.

CREW CABIN

There are two crew cabins both with en-suite.

One cabin comprises of a bunk berth with the bottom bunk larger than the top for 2 crew

The other cabin comprises of a bunk bed and a single bed for 3 crew.

Captain Comments

Early Years

“At her launch in early 1993, Cyrano de Bergerac was simultaneously large enough to turn heads and sufficiently innovative to win awards; but the story of Cyrano must really start with the original owner, Ermanno Bassani (father of the founder of Wally Yachts, Luca Bassani).

As a very experienced yacht owner with many years of both racing and cruising, Mr Bassani had already owned a succession of cutting edge yachts, culminating in the 96-foot sloop, Calabuig, launched by Camper & Nicholsons in 1979. She was at the time the largest sloop in the world with the newest system of the time of in-mast furling. This yacht has sailed around the world in safety and comfort time and time again.

I was working with Calabuig during the last 4 years of ownership and many of her traits were to be included in the designs for Cyrano.

CONCEPT OF CYRANO DE BERGERAC

It was in 1989 that the concepts and early criteria were formed.

The well-known racing yacht designer, Rob Humphreys, was chosen early on to create a voluminous, comfortable, sea-kindly yet efficient hull with good sailing performance. By March 1990 a scale model was already being tank tested at the Wolfson Unit at Southampton University.

BUILD OF CYRANO DE BERGERAC

Camper & Nicholson’s at Gosport UK were chosen as the builders of choice and with John Munford for the interior designs and exterior styling, Nirvana for mast design and supply, Riggarna (OYS) for the standing rigging and Seaway for the hydraulic design and supply. The construction was started in early 1991.

The C&N design department produced all the construction and system arrangement drawings and most works were carried out by them in house. The hull was built using marine grade aluminium which was laser cut in Holland and assembled at the Vosper Thornycroft Shipyard in Porchester. From an engineering perspective, safety was always paramount. In conjunction with C&N, most systems were duplicated and despite their complexities, all the automated functions aboard have easy to operate manual overrides and a good degree of inbuilt redundancy.

Already partially fitted out, in May 1992 the hull was launched and floated down stream to C&N at Gosport where the fit out was completed out of the water, before being re-launched in January 1993. Now the spiral wound carbon fibre spars that had been manufactured in France, fitted out in Holland and shipped to Southampton, were rigged. Following sea trials, Cyrano departed for the Mediterranean in April of that year to start a long and adventure filled life which has included 16 Atlantic crossings, a 2 year around the world trip and visits to Central and South America, USA, Pacific and the Indian Ocean.

Cyrano has survived Hurricane force winds and is also capable of reaching 275 miles per day under sail. Having been involved with Cyrano from her earliest conception, to her design phase and through to her construction, initially in the position of Build Engineer and subsequently as Captain, I am extremely proud to say 26 years later that our work was done well!

Cyrano has proved herself time and time again to be capable of everything asked of her. With a degree of comfort for both owners and crew which is second to none, Cyrano was designed as and, indeed still is, the perfect vessel to travel the worlds’ oceans.

She now awaits a new owner with new aspirations to continue her story.”
