DESIGN
The Carver 42 hull
planes easily and exhibits exceptional tracking ability. The fine
entry, three quarter length keel, innovative shape of the running bottom
and location of the center of gravity all contribute to the superior
performance of this vessel. The planning surface of the hull has
parallel buttocks and slopes up ad it runs aft. The wide chines are
parallel to the waterline, causing the chines to widen significantly as
they run aft. the chines measure two feet wide at the transom,
providing extra initial stability. To eliminate bow spray a second was
designed into the hull to deflect the bow wave out.
CONSTRUCTION
Hull construction begins with a fully cured gel coat of 15 mil
thickness. Hand layup method of construction guarantees the proper
fiberglass to resin ration, assuring consistent laminate strength
throughout. The hull is made up of several 1 1/2 random strand mat and
24 oz woven roving fiberglass. Generous overlap of the layers in the
keel and chines increase hull strength, impact resistance and overall
integrity. The stringer system is 100percent fiberglass re-enforced with
aluminum in the engine room. The stringer system is a one piece grid
network bonded to the solid fiberglass hull bottom. The hull sides have
balsa core above the waterline, providing stiffness resulting in a
structure that is incredibly strong with minimum weight.
