14. REFIT NOTES
SUMMARY OF 2015 REFIT; LA CIOTAT
M/Y Kanaloa has completed a multi-million Euro 18 month in depth extensive refit. Most aspects of the yacht have been inspected tested and extensively refurbished, repaired or replaced. Up to 40 contractors and approximately 22 specialised crew have been working to carry out an in depth overhaul of the yachts systems and appearance.
The following items have been given particular attention.
EXTENSIVE STRUCTURAL INVASIVE SURVEY / RESTORATION
This involved an in depth inspection and certification of the yacht’s structure and hull plating under the scrutiny of Lloyds Register surveyors. This was carried out dismantling all machinery, fittings, and insulation around the areas suspected of corrosion and needing attention.
All metal found needing repairs was replaced, again all following the strict Lloyds rules and duly documented. All surfaces needing recoating where meticulously repaired and recoated.
Large swathes of new insulation have been installed throughout, including anti condensation compound and new sound insulation. The depth and scope of this work far surpassed the normal 20year special survey requirements, which often rely on NDT measurements only.
MAIN ENGINE MAJOR OVERALL / REBUILD
Both Deutz main engines have been rebuilt to full manufacturers standard. This involved replacing all of the wearing components using OEM parts following the manufacturers recommendations for complete overhaul. They are both zerohours.
GEARBOX MAJOR OVERALL / REBUILD
Both main gearboxes have been rebuilt to full remanufacture standard. This Included main and secondary bearing replacement. They are now zerohours.
TAIL SHAFTS
Both tail shafts have been replaced for new, this included new shaft bearings and shaft seals.
TANK INSPECTION / REPAIR
As with the hull all of the yachts tankage was meticulously inspected and when needed repaired / recoated under Lloyds Register supervision at all times.
ENGINE ROOM ANCILLARY EQUIPMENT OVERHAUL
The vast majority of the engine room ancillary equipment had been removed from the yacht, overhauled, inspected and tested before reinstallation with a new coat of paint. Numerous items have been replaced when needed.
PIPE WORK
A very large proportion of the yachts pipe work has been replaced. What was left on board was pressure tested and recoated when needed. All sea shell valves replaced or repaired and approved by Class.
AIR CONDITIONING
All of the yachts fancoils have been pressure tested cleaned or replaced. Most of the chilled water insulation has been renewed as has most of the chilled water pipe work. Both compressors tested and or overhauled recently. The entire system recommissioned with clean oil and approved gas.
ALARM AND MONITORING SYSTEM
This has been completely overhauled and tested by the original manufacturer. Replacing cards and sensors where need be, with OEM approved parts.
TECHNICAL SPACES / BILGES
These have all been recoated and meticulously cleaned.
STEERING GEAR
This has been completely over hauled to class satisfaction, including new seals and hydraulic ram shafts.
PAINTWORK
New topsides paint work completed by one of the most respected shipyards in the refit industry. Completed in Awlgrip.
SUPERSTRUCTURE PAINT
This is currently being refinished using skilled tradesmen. Completed in Awlgrip.
TEAK DECK REPAIR REFURBISHMENT
This is currently being refurbished / replaced using skilled specialised contractors. All areas are being inspected and repaired or replaced as need be.
NAVIGATION / BRIDGE EQUIPMENT
This has been tested and repaired throughout although only limited parts have been replaced (Commercial X band Radar,
Navnet, depth sounder, log,) all other equipment is now fully functional and recommissioned.
KANALOA is now back in full commission, fully refitted, classed, flagged, certified and commercially compliant ready for charter and a new future
INTERIOR IMPROVEMENTS
New carpets have been fitted throughout the yacht. In addition, specialists have restored areas of the interior cabinetry and woodwork.
15. COMMENTS
Built in 1996 by CRN, KANALOA is a beautifully appointed classic Italian motor yacht. Having completed a thorough rebuild in 2015, KANALOA is in excellent condition and ready for a Mediterranean summer of extended cruising.
KANALOA offers an exceptionally spacious interior for a yacht of her age and size. The Zuretti interior gives a light and warm atmosphere, which is complimented by the generous use of Italian marble. KANALOA is able to accommodate up to 11 guests in six lavishly styled staterooms. Her full beam main deck master stateroom offers a private office and his-and-hers en-suite bathroom. The VIP on the lower deck is also full beam and can be split to offer a private salon. One of the four additional guest staterooms is located on the main deck, two are located on the lower deck and one, often used for the nanny, is located on the upper deck. All guest accommodations have en-suite facilities.
KANALOA’s exterior offers a sheltered bridge deck aft dining area, perfect for alfresco dining. The vast sundeck offers a large forward bathing area and shaded bar and Jacuzzi as the center point.
KANALOA has been awarded the Judges’ Commendation for Achievement at the World Superyacht Awards 2016 following her full structural and mechanical rebuild relaunched in September 2015. The main aspects of this refit include full restoration of the yacht's hull, teak decking, technical spaces and a full repaint of the yacht's exterior. A full and comprehensive list of the refit is available on request. This refit was completed at Composite Works in La Ciotat, France.
