The vessel is a flush-deck, welded aluminum designed by S&S. The vessels lines and displacement are similar to the Swans of the period. “Winds Way” was overbuilt by Huisman, with frames on 13.25” centers using multiple fore and aft stringers. All frames are ring frames with every fourth frame over sized. (There have been no major repairs to the aluminum structure completed or needed in the 30-year ownership of the present owners.) Under a previous owner, the original blind fastened teak decks were removed. All fasteners holes welded shut. The racing interior was replaced with modern cored joinery Formica faced and teak trimmed. There is a large forward flush deck hatch And another midship. For added security additional from the weather custom stainless steel hatches have been added covering the sliders.
The vessel has two accesses with companionway ladders to below decks. One is amid ship the other aft in the forward section of the cockpit. Entering the aft companionway there are matching port and starboard quarter berths. The aft compartment offers storage beneath the cockpit sole and in quarter berth lockers. plus Nine additional lockers with one dedicated to chart storage. At the forward port side of the aft stateroom is a dedicated navigator’s area with seat. Contained in this space are two electrical panels, ICOM M700, Garmin 740 GPS map with Garmin 36m radar interfaced, Polaris VH, etc
Moving forward to starboard is the galley. This is one of two passageways, one port and one starboard leading forward and aft. To starboard in the galley is a two burner SS Tasco gimbaled stove with oven, double SS deep sinks, foot pumps for fresh and salt water and Frigoboat air cooled 12v refrigeration/freezer. There is storage outboard, sliding door lockers above with cutlery draws on centerline.
The second passageway is to port and contains the head with ample storage and vanity sink. Doors fore and aft isolate the head while in use.
Between the head and galley areas is the Perkins 4-107. You will find access from all four sides as well as above when you lift off the counter top.
Forward of the head to port is a hanging locker and single seat in front of it. There is a centerline dining table with matching bench seats with storage under. Aft of the dining table on centerline is the second companionway to below decks. The seat backs swing up revealing bin lockers port and starboard. The seat backs form two additional berths and you find a pilot berth outboard each seat back. All cushions were replaced or recovered with Champagne Beige Ultra Suede type of materials. Easily maintained and stain resistant.
Forward of the salon is the V-berth/master suite. The berth measures 82” wide by 76” deep. The area contains drawer and bin storage along with large storage below the berth cushions.

The original name of the vessel was the ‘Prospect of Whitby’. The vessel is the fourth of five of the same name built for Arthur Slater of England. Mr. Slater campaigned the vessel as one of three representing England in the Admiralty Cup during the middle 1970's. The vessel has participated in the Fastnet, Bermuda, Marion-Bermuda, the original SORC and Australia’s Sidney-Hobart where she took her class.
Winds Way has been owned and maintained by the same family for thirty years. The boat has been a family vessel with very little racing. Although in 1989 Winds Way earned the Family Trophy in the Marion-Bermuda. The vessel has carried the family successfully and safely over 40,000 miles including trips to Bermuda and a circumnavigation.
