General Description

Once the winner of the prestigious “Boat of the Year” from Cruising World Magazine, the Hylas 54 designed by German Frers has proven herself as a hugely successful and desirable blue water cruising yacht on all continents.

For many years the Hulas 54 was the flagship of the Hylas Yachts line. The design delivers speed and power while keeping its crew safe and secure in comfortable and luxurious deep centre cockpit and roomy cabins. It’s versatility adds greatly to this and allows the yacht to be sailed short-handed.

The 2004 Gypsea Rover is a perfect example of this pedigree. Extensively fitted out for serious cruising this yacht also sports a Frers designed hard dodger greatly adding to the safety and comfort of the centre cockpit. This yacht is capable of doing 200+ nm days and has done so on many voyages with her new 2013 main and genoa.

Present owner is an engineer which shows in many details in particular the perfect electrics and electronics wiring, an extremely well organised and maintained engine room with a 125 hp Yanmar turbo diesel and a Panda 8 kW genset as well as in the meticulous maintenance.

With a full beam stateroom with a queen size bed and ensuite aft, a large VIP cabin with queen size and another guest cabin forward to port both sharing a second bathroom, Gypsea Rover will accommodate 6 people in comfort and 7 when need be. The roomy main cabin with comfortable settee and large dining table is adjacent to a well appointed galley located aft of the cabin on starboard. The navigation corner with chart table and access to the electronics and the electrics panel has a comfortable office chair and a build-in drawer for a large laptop. Reverse cycle air-conditioning is available throughout the interior and hot/cold water in showers and galley as well as on the transom.

On deck all primary, secondary and main winches are electric just as the Sidepower bow thruster, the windlass and the stainless steel davits. Both foresails are furling and the main is in-mast furling. Ample gangways make going forward easy and safe. The deep centre cockpit with the centred large helm wheel gives good protection but also excellent view around. The main instruments including the chart plotter are right in front of the helmsman just like the engine and bow thruster controls. The four large stainless dorades provide ample ventilation. Charging of the batteries is not dependent on engine or generator: 6 solar panels (60W each) and a 400W wind generator usually provide enough ‘juice’ to have quiet passages. Standing and running rigging are all in great condition and with the large uncluttered decks the yacht offers great value for money.

The owners are turning a page in their life style and are keen to sell with a listing price that is below the typical price level of identical yachts, making it a ‘must see, must buy’ Hylas 54.
