A rare opportunity: A Kelly Peterson 44 in ready to go, anywhere, condition at a ready to go price! New owners recently completed repair of survey items and performed upgrades and outfitting to begin their world cruising. Unfortunately, personal issues have required an immediate sale of their newly purchased Kelly Peterson.
The current owners are only the third in the history of S/V Telly Penguin, fka Habana. Previous owner was a professional mariner with 17 years of ownership. Refits were performed in 1998-2001, 2006, 2012 and most significantly in May-June of 2015. This latest refit included the fabrication and installation of all new chain plates in addition to standing rigging being inspected and tuned. A new NextGen generator was installed. Numerous other upgrades and improvements were performed.
The Kelly Peterson was originally designed for Jack Kelly by the renown Doug Peterson. The KP44 was built with a long fin keel and a cutaway forefoot and after body to assure reduction of the wetted surface providing for good light air performance with a shorter turning radius in a medium displacement long range sailing yacht. Additionally, the low profile adds to the solid yet gentle motion providing for an outstanding sea kindly motion.

The Perkins 62hp engine had a complete major overhaul in approximately 2001. There are approximately 600 hrs SMOH. In June 2015, the engine had a complete servicing that included valve adjustment, new water hoses and clamps, new belts, new fuel lines, and coolant. The minor detailing recommended on survey has been completed and the engine should provide many tens of thousands of hours of continued use. Numerous spare parts include head gasket, elbows for Perkins, belts and hoses, Sherwood water pump, filters etc. Many mechanical improvements in 2015 refit.

The May/June 2015 refit included the fabrication and installation of new chain plates.
In 2012 all ports were replaced with stainless steel opening port lights with screens. New Bowmar hatches were installed.
During the 2006 refit, the vessel received a complete Awlgrip paint job including deck, hull, mast, and boom. All stanchion and stanchion bases were replaced. New standing and running rigging installed.
Heavy construction includes hand-laid fiberglass mat and roving with polyester resin. The full size molded in-skeg keel encapsulates the 10,000 lbs of iron ballast. Skeg protected prop.
