INSIGNIA, with a fiberglass hull and superstructure, is the third and largest launch in the Lyman Morse 'Magpie' series, and was designed by Setzer Design Group in conjunction with a very knowledgeable owner.

With three staterooms, twin Cats, and a max speed of 22 knots, she is a modern classic yacht, built to the highest possible standards.

Walkthrough

INSIGNIA is the third and largest launch in the Lyman Morse "Magpie" series. She is a modern classic gentleman's yacht, built to the highest possible standards and designed to be a joy to own, for the comfort she provides, for the performance she delivers, for the beauty of her profile, and for the elegance and charm of her interior.

One boards the yacht into the aft cockpit, a split-level area sheathed in seasoned teak, with a bench settee and gate to the swim platform on the lower level, and another settee on the upper, wheelhouse level. Hatches in the sole give access to the engines (set in a V-drive configuration) and the gensets.

Wide side decks of non-skid fiberglass and protected by a stainless steel guard rail lead to the foredeck. The whole area is surrounded by a wide varnished cap rail and the superstructure is accented with traditional varnished eyebrows and driprails.

The wheelhouse has two L-shaped settees with varnished teak tables set into the aft corners of the room. A central helm seat (or cozy bench) faces the only helm station, as the roof of the wheelhouse is used for tender storage instead of a flybridge, which would have detracted from the beauty of the profile. A similar companion seat is to starboard (with a convenient drinks fridge set into its base) and another seat to port with ice maker under. All of the cabinetry, furniture and joinerwork in this wheelhouse is in varnished teak with a teak and wenge sole.

Several steps down and forward the main salon occupies the full beam of the deckhouse, with large windows on both sides and forward for uncompromised views. Here, the cabinet makers' art is on display, with varnished Honduras mahogany, book matched panels, inlays in traditional nautical themes and teak and holly soles. A settee, armchair and coffee table are to starboard, while the dining alcove, while a U-shaped settee around a cleverly folding table, occupies the forward end of the room on a raised platform.

The galley is forward to port down another half flight of steps and partially open to the salon. A Maine granite countertop is inlaid with stainless sinks and the induction cooktop, and a full range of professional grade equipment is installed.

One of the two ensuite guest staterooms, with a queen-size berth, is forward of the galley, while the other, with twin berths, is to starboard.

The full-beam owner's quarters are aft of the salon with a centerline king-size berth against the aft bulkhead. The ensuite bathroom is to starboard with twin vanity, head and shower.

A large auxiliary machinery room and fuel and water tankage is beneath the main salon.

The interior of Magpie was impressive, as was the fit and finish of ACADIA. It seems that the craftsmen at Lyman Morse are determined to beat the quality of previous work, as INSIGNIA is simply superb. Inspection is highly recommended.
