Overview
Winner of the 2007 World Yacht Trophy Award for the most functional
yacht design and long recognized for the stunning profile, traditional
lines, Flag blue awlgrip finished hull that shimmers on the bay and
best-in-class technologies employed in the yacht's construction! SAND
PIPER is hull #11 and a proud and prized member of the Marlow Explorer
70E fleet.
The composite structure of DuPont Kevlar, vinylester
resins, core-cell foam and engineered fabrics are vacuum bagged and
built in only three major molds to eliminate unsightly joint areas and
achieve superior strength that withstands the punishment of rough seas
and dangerous floating objects. Designed with the patented Velocijet
Strut Keels, SAND PIPER delivers outstanding performance and she tracks
reliably through the toughest seas. With the Portuguese Bridge, high
bulwarks, windows with two tempered pieces of glass laminated together
with 3M hurricane shield for a total thickness of 13mm, this yacht is
clearly designed for long term cruising. In a busy marina the core-cell
foam construction provides unparalleled strength as well as excellent
sound and thermal insulation. The interior bulkheads, stringers and
structural components are installed in the hull when the hull is still
in the mold. Where a bulkhead or a cabinet meets the hull or the deck
they are connected to the hull/deck by means of a tabbing laminate that
adds extra strength and stiffness to the hull and deck. These are just a
few of the features that make this Marlow Explorer's rugged
construction far superior and give her enduring performance.
The
hand selected Burmese teak wood was skillfully matched and finished to
preserve the beauty of the natural wood grain. The joinery work on every
Marlow Explorer is expertly finished with an average of ten layers of
varnish that are sanded between each layer and polished to a finish.
Dovetail construction is standard on all drawers throughout the vessel
with all drawers finished inside, out and under. With this level of
attention to detail you can store the finest silks and sweaters safely.
Hanging lockers and closets are all cedar lined. Even the bilge areas
are a smooth flo-coat laminate, applied to produce a durable high-gloss
finish throughout all interior hull surfaces. The quality of workmanship
is of the highest level throughout this Marlow Explorer.

Accommodations
Boarding the yacht from the Euro-transom or cockpit doors, you
immediately notice the beautiful teak decks with a full 5/8' thick teak
bonded, directly to the deck (not screwed) with recessed cleats on the
bulwarks (off the deck) and smooth, clean lines. Entering the salon the
uninterrupted view forward thru the salon, galley, and into the
pilothouse make for a very welcoming feeling. The space is
simply immense, with rich woods, teak and ebony sole, newly
refinished ultra-leather settees and a custom office/library that create
a warm and comfortable atmosphere. You will quickly find
yourself dreaming about isolated coves and spectacular ports of call
soon to be enjoyed with family and friends.
Up three steps to
the pilothouse, the galley is to starboard, helm on center and dinette
forward to port. The emphasis of this area is function. Sitting in the
Stidd helm chair you can rotate the chair and see uninterrupted sight
lines to the bow and both aft corners of the vessel, making docking an
ease with added visibility and security from the camera system. The helm
layout puts all engine and navigation information right in front
of you. On the overhead panel are the electronics, circuit breakers,
tank tender, warning alarms, inverter system, and battery condition
indicators. The very well-equipped galley, with top of the line
appliances and generous cabinets and drawers, enables gourmet
entertaining and provides great storage for provisions and cookware.
While working in the galley, you can socialize with family and friends
in the pilothouse and salon, never missing any of the the action.
Down
the curved stairway to the forward staterooms is varnished in
non-skid, recessed teak handrails and a hanging storage cabinet.
Overhead there is a cabinet that provides rear access to all of the
lower helm station electronics and equipment.
Forward the VIP
stateroom is very spacious with a light and airy feel. An island queen
bed, two hanging lockers, several storage drawers below the berth with
cabinets above, on both the port and starboard side make this VIP
truly feel like a second master stateroom. Below the forward end of the
mattress are the two Glendinning cable masters for the bow shore power
cords. The ensuite VIP head is to starboard with a VacuFlush toilet,
black granite countertop and a separate enclosed shower stall with a
beautiful curved teak and glass door.
The guest stateroom to
port has very comfortable upper and lower berths, two hanging lockers, a
flat screen TV with DVD player and a private head with sink and stall
shower.
Under the hatch in the companionway sole is the separate
100 gallon drinking water tank, fresh water pumps and associated
filters. This lower compartment is a bright clean finished area with
teak grating, and a large area for additional bulk storage.
The
full width master stateroom is accessed by a custom private entrance
from the salon office. This is a large stateroom with full 6'4" headroom
and teak and holly sole. There are two full-size cedar lined closets, a
large hanging locker and king-size bed with secure storage and four
large drawers below. The suite includes a large flat screen TV with DVD
player and stereo system. Down two steps at the aft end of the stateroom
are port and starboard armoires with hanging lockers and numerous
drawers. To port are his and hers heads each with a sink and one with a
vanity that are joined by a common shower stall. This area also contains
access to the port utility area where the central vac and both hot
water heaters are located. You will notice every hose and every valve
has a label, is properly mounted and is color coded.
Interior
access to the laundry/work area, lazarette and engine room is via a
custom stairway from the aft port corner of the salon. The lazarette is
finished with a teak and holly sole and teak grates above the bilge
area. Entrance to the engine room is through a water tight door. The
air-conditioned engine room provides a full 6 feet of head room and very
good access to engines, generators and fuel tanks as traditional and
heavy bulky beams are not required to support the salon sole.
The
cockpit area contains a large settee with storage under, cockpit
controls, a large electric grill and stainless steel sink and exterior
access to the lazarette. The Euro transom has molded steps with door
entry to the large teak swim platform.
Master Stateroom
SAND PIPER has a custom private entrance to the Master Stateroom
which runs full width. She carries an island king berth with drawers
under the berth in addition to a dresser and linen closet. The full
height closets and hanging locker provide abundant storage for long
cruises. The portlights have screens and the beautiful 24V Italian and
Danish lighting illuminates the berth as well as behind the valances
create an intimate ambience.
On the aft side of the stateroom,
down two steps, is an area with two additional hanging lockers and
several drawers for storage.
The master stateroom is one of the
quietest areas on the yacht, shielded from engine noise by not only the
fuel tank but also completely enclosed with core-cell foam, vacuum
bagged composite structure, and partitions of laminated core-cell foam
sandwich construction that are all vacuum bagged together to add
superior strength, sound and thermal insulation.
