"Sea Sonata" is a Philip L. Rhodes designed sailing yacht with a superbly functional and proportioned hull with graceful sheer lines and true design harmony. His designs have an elegance and ageless beauty that is not part of yacht design today. Rhodes designs swept the 2000 Bermuda Race. In general his designs fall somewhere in between those of Alden and Stephens.
"Sea Sonata" has only had 2 owners and she has sailed only in fresh water from Lake Erie to the North Channel of Lake Huron. The previous owner a Naval Academy Alumni sailed single-handed without an auxiliary engine extensively in the Great lakes. The Yanmar 40 hp diesel was installed when the current owner purchased "Sea Sonata" and has low hours. The 17' long cabin and deckhouse with 7' headroom lives large and easily sleeps a family of 6 and can be used as a very comfortable live aboard for two. The 200 gallon water and 65 gallon diesel tanks are situated low in the bilge and add to stability and allow for long range cruising. The hull to deck is Girder-Bonded permanently (not caulked and bolted) and should never leak and is immensely strong. The keel has cast lead ballast for maximum stability and optimum sailing. This vessel has a solid stainless steel rudder post with reinforced fiberglass rudder. Pedestal steering with emergency tiller steering is readily available if ever needed. Engine, batteries and water pressure pump are all located directly under the hatches in the deckhouse floor with easy access.

You can access Sea Sonata's cockpit from either the port or starboard side. The cockpit has three molded bench seats, one to port, one to starboard and one along the transom. The helm is centered aft in the cockpit and a fold out table with cup holders mounts forward of the helm. The table can be folded down for storage or folded up and out for an outside dinette. The molded seats all have storage compartments underneath. You can access the foredeck by both port and starboard walkways
A companionway in the cockpit forward provides access to the interior and immediately into the salon. The salon has a large sofa sleeper along the port side and there are two lounge chairs to starboard. The sofa sleeper sides out and forms a single berth. On the starboard side behind the lounge chairs is a fold down single berth. Forward of the salon is the U-shaped dinette to port and the Galley to starboard. The dinette will seat 4-6 people and can convert ito a double berth by lowering the dinette table. The Galley spans the starboard side of the boat from salon to forward berth. Forward of the dinette is the head to port and then the V berth is in the bow.
The cockpit on Sea Sonata has three molded bench seats with cushions and large storage under each. A flip up expanding table can be mounted forward of the steering coulomb and can function as an outside dining area using the port and STBD bench seating.
