Sotalia is a branch of the Kelly Peterson 46 tree. This very well know design from Doug Peterson was first seen in the KP 44. The design was stretched to 46 and taken over by Formosa Yachts after design royalties not being paid to the designer. Formosa Yachts built this design for four years and the product was not nearly as good as the boats overseen by Jack Kelly.
In 1984, Australian, Ron Hillier took over production using the same molds and built the 46 as the Sprindrift 46.
The SPINDRIFT 46 was built by Formosa Yachts using the same molds that built the FORMOSA 46. (1980-1984). R. Hillier, of Brisbane Australia, oversaw the building of this yacht which was to be sold in the US for Bristol yachts of Newport Beach CA. For the Australian market, they were called the HILLIER/PETERSON 46. Hillier ran afoul of designer Doug Peterson who filed a law suit. Hillier died and the suit was shelved.
These boats were in the same quality level as the KP 46 and thus have retained a higher value than a regular Formosa 46

Sotalia is a 1984 Formosa 46 with the total construction overseen by Australian Ron Hillier. The quality is comparable to the Kelly Peterson 46 which is well known as a terrific bluewater cruiser.
All the way forward is the V berth with insert that makes into a fine double berth. There is storage on both side and a hatch above for light and ventilation.Next aft is the head with marine toilet, with mirror ,sink and vanity. There is storage access here as well.
As we enter the main salon the first thing of notice is the fine teak interior and teak and holly sole. There is a teak folding table that seat up to 6 people. Across to starboard is a long settee with book shelves and lockers outboard.
There is a bulkhead mounted TV with DVD player for onboard entertainment.
Also there is a beautiful cabinet for glassware for when there are guests on board.
Moving farther aft we arrive at the galley. It is an L shape with good areas for preparing meals and serving either to the table or cockpit.
Opening ports make it very comfortable either on passage or at anchor.
Directly across from the galley is the navigation station with opening chart table, communication gear and electrical panel.
Next aft along the starboard side is the walk thru to the aft cabin.
Along this passageway the space can be a sea berth or storage area. There is also the entrance to the engine room here.
Finally we arrive at the aft cabin featuring a large double berth with adjacent seat and drawers beneath plus head and private entrance.
