A perfect family boat that can also be easily crewed by just two, this Tayana 42 Vancouver is above all an excellent cruising sail boat with exceptional sea keeping qualities. At 30,000 pounds Mustard Seed is extremely stable, providing a comfortable journey in all types of conditions. With a modified full keel and a cutter rig that features over 1,000 square feet of sail, Mustard Seed is fully capable of cruising anywhere.
Tayanas are known for their beautiful teak woodwork and fine craftsmanship. Mustard Seed's interior space showcases this craftsmanship, with beautiful joinery and solid teak staving throughout all three of its cabins: the forward stateroom, the aft stateroom and the salon. All doors feature mortise/tenon design and construction and are hand-fitted; all drawers are constructed of dovetail joints such as you would see in fine furniture. The interior features a satin finish.
Entering aft from the cockpit the galley is to starboard with an aft stateroom featuring a double berth on the port side. Moving forward, you enter the main salon featuring a large table with convertible settee to starboard, capable of seating six comfortably. The port side of the main salon has another settee that converts to a comfortable sea berth, featuring large drawers underneath and additional storage.
There is also a navigation station and chart table to port, with an exceptional complement of navigational and electronic equipment. The teak navigation table has generous storage under the table top and 4 large drawers.
The head is immediately forward of the main salon and features a sink with marble vanity, storage space and a large separate shower stall with teak seat. This is followed by the forward stateroom featuring a large v-berth with filler cushion. The forward stateroom also features port and starboard shelves, drawers, lockers, cabinets, a full length hanging locker and bookshelves with teak accents.
Other interior features include teak framed mirrors in both the head and salon; solid, custom fitted teak doors and frames, polished brass ships clock and matching barometer, 18 power receptacles, 5 high-performance variable speed fans, 9 reading lamps, 10 dimmable dome lights, 7 utility lights, floor level LED's for night vision and multiple storage areas for spare engine parts and other equipment.
An Espar D5LC diesel heater keeps all areas of the cabin warm in the off-season.

In 2005 the owner completely re-designed the electrical system eliminating the use of circuit breakers. A new load center was built and relocated under the companionway so as to reduce the length of feeder cables and resulting power loss. The new system employs Trident Instrument Load Status Indicator LSI-55 - a remarkable smart pilot light (LED) that indicates when there is available power by illuminating green but also indicates an active load (i.e., bilge pump running, fan running, etc.) by illuminating red. If the light is off completely, the breaker is off or has been tripped. At a glance, you can tell which loads have power and which ones are active, allowing you to ensure that all systems are properly shut down at the end of the day but also letting you know when a fan is still running or even a bilge pump.
