Sail Yachts For Sale

Sailing yachts embody harmony with nature, romance, and an eco-friendly way to explore the seas. Suitable for both short voyages and extended cruises, they let you experience the quiet beauty of sailing to the fullest. In the catalog below, you’ll find a selection of both new and pre-owned sailing yachts.

1. The Sailing Yacht Purchase Process

With over 17 years of experience, our lead broker Andrey Shestakov will help you choose the yacht that best matches your needs and budget. When required, he collaborates with trusted brokers worldwide to provide transparent terms and reliable support at every stage of the transaction.

The transaction stages include:

  • Memorandum of Agreement (MOA): We finalize the price and terms.
  • 10% Deposit: Placed into an escrow account.
  • Survey and Sea Trial: The yacht is thoroughly inspected.
  • Decision: The buyer confirms the deal, negotiates, or cancels.
  • Closing: The Bill of Sale is signed, payment is made, and the yacht's registration and transfer of ownership are completed.

2. What Is a Sailing Yacht?

A sailing yacht is a vessel that primarily moves using sails and utilizes small maneuvering engines for docking. It can be a monohull, a catamaran (two hulls), or a trimaran (three hulls).

Why choose a sailing yacht?

  • Quiet operation: There is no engine noise or vibration, only the sound of the water and the rustle of the sails.
  • Eco-friendliness: The yacht is powered by the wind, resulting in minimal emissions and fuel savings.
  • Autonomy: It allows for extended time on the water without the need for continuous engine use.

3. Which Yacht Is Right for You?

Deciding on the right sailboat can be challenging, so here is a brief guide based on intended use.

  • Fishing: Small sailing boats or catamarans under 10 meters are suitable for quiet fishing. They can easily access bays and lagoons, have a shallow draft, and are simple to operate. For longer trips, you can choose mid-sized yachts with 1–2 cabins for storing gear and your catch.
  • Sport: For sport sailing, consider trimarans and lightweight racing yachts. They offer high speed, maneuverability, and the adrenaline of competitive sailing. This option is ideal for those who want to race in regattas or train actively under sail.
  • Cruising: For family and group outings, catamarans or large sailing yachts up to 24 meters are a better choice. They offer spacious decks, multiple cabins, a galley, and a lounge area. This is a great option for overnight trips, on-board parties, or romantic sunset cruises.
  • Extended Travel and Expeditions: For multi-day sea voyages, large catamarans and monohull yachts with cabins and a kitchen are suitable. They are autonomous, can cover significant distances, and are ideal for week-long routes in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, or other regions.

4. Yacht Inspection

Before purchasing, we recommend enlisting a Shestakov Yacht Sales broker to oversee the yacht’s inspection and transfer process. After the preliminary price negotiation and a 10% deposit, the buyer gains the right to conduct an independent survey and sea trial. If needed, our lead broker, Andrey Shestakov, can recommend vetted specialists; however, the final choice of surveyor always rests with the client.

  • Hull: The hull is inspected for cracks, signs of repair, osmosis, and collision damage. The keel, frames, deck, and mast base are also checked. It is crucial to ensure the hull has no hidden damage that could affect safety.
  • Sails and rigging: The sail fabric should not be worn out or torn, and the seams must be strong. The shrouds, stays, blocks, winches, and rigging fittings are all inspected.
  • Maneuvering engines: Although a sailing yacht primarily uses sails, it has small engines for maneuvers in ports and during calm weather. Check their startup, idle operation, and performance under load, and verify their service history and the absence of leaks.
  • Equipment and comfort: Make sure the navigation equipment, safety gear, anchoring system, and domestic appliances are in working order. All installed equipment must be listed in the bill of sale. For comfortable use, pay attention to the galley, cabins, sanitary facilities, and lighting system.

The most important part of the inspection is verifying the technical condition of the hull, sails, engines, and equipment, as well as their legal documentation.

Actions after the inspection

Following the survey and sea trial, the buyer may choose to confirm the deal, renegotiate terms, or cancel the purchase. If the deal is confirmed, the Closing process begins—finalizing the Bill of Sale, completing payment, registering the yacht, and transferring ownership.

5. Popular Brands

The market includes renowned European sailing yacht brands such as Beneteau, Jeanneau, Bavaria, Dufour, and Hallberg-Rassy, along with leading catamaran builders like Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, and Bali. European shipyards are celebrated for their design, sailing performance, and onboard comfort, as well as for offering a wide range of models suited for both charter and private ownership. When choosing, it’s also important to consider the availability of service and spare parts in your region.

The key takeaway: a sailing yacht’s brand reflects its philosophy—whether sporty in character or focused on family comfort. In the catalog below, you’ll find a curated selection of sailing yachts and catamarans, and our team will help you choose the best option to match your goals and budget.
