117' Delta Motor Yacht GRUMPY

Custom built along the lines of a classic motor yacht; GRUMPY is completely fiberglass construction featuring an exquisite traditional teak interior with the famous Delta carpentry. Powered with Caterpillar V- 12 3412 engines commercially rated with only 642 horsepower each, the yacht has incredible range with 10,000 gallon fuel capacity enabling over 4,000 mile range. Crew quarters are expansive with crew lounge and galley.

Accommodations

Entry to the main salon from the back deck is from fiberglass and teak interior double doors that so much easier to open than heavy sliding stainless and glass doors. Located just inside the aft doors is a large wet bar, convenient for service to the salon and the back deck. Plentiful cabinets above and below the counter allow room for a full assortment of glasses and libations. There is both a separate refrigerator and ice maker here, both with teak cabinet doors rather than stainless.

Forward to port is a conversation seating area with couch, two arm chairs and two barrel chairs that can easily be moved depending how many guests and family are here. Large square windows are low enough for a good view of passing boats and anchorage views while still being seated. Across from the seating area is the entertainment center with a television on a lift.
Forward of the salon is an office with sliding doors that can close off this space for privacy. To one side is a desk in an alcove with a large window and television screen, in the center of the office is a loveseat with coffee table, and to the other side is a small library, all in the satin teak finish as the rest of the salon. Electrically operated Roman shades can block the sum to allow privacy in the office and salon.

Forward is a walkway with a floor of high gloss teak in a herring bone pattern.   This leads to the pilothouse, day head, galley and formal dining room. There is a side door here leading to the foredeck that has a rolling screen to allow cross ventilation but keep the flying creatures out.

Dining Room

The formal dining room is forward and has a large rectangular table with seating for eight. The finish is satin finish teak as the rest of the interior. Electrically operated Roman shades match the custom upholstery on the dining room chairs and the carpeting was recently replaced. A door leads directly from the dining room to the galley. There is ample storage in multiple cabinets.

Galley

The galley is large enough for the most discerning chef. The design is a center walk around work station covered by a custom high gloss counter top with inlayed wood in a star pattern. Corian style counters in an “L” shape makes for lots of work space. Updated stainless appliances are all full size. Recent updates are new Lonseal synthetic wood pattern flooring and bamboo Hunter window blinds. There is a door directly to the dining room with a drop down counter shelf

Staterooms

The master and guest staterooms are accessed from a wide staircase in the main salon. The hall way is high gloss teak in the same herring bone pattern as on the main deck. The midship master stateroom offers a king size walk around berth with a television on a lift at the foot board. Reading lights on night tables with storage are to either side of the bed. A full wall of closets allows plenty of room so that the owners will not need to bring big suitcases; there is room for clothes for all seasons. For readers there are many bookshelves and a desk area for taking care of business or can be used as a vanity Recent carpeting and Roman shades are in subtle tones. The ensuite bath has a counter with double sinks, a full size marble spa tub and separate enclosed shower. Off the separate enclosed toilet area is a hidden room with safe and gun locker.

One guest stateroom with ensuite head and shower has twin berths for the most versatility for guests. There is a night table between the berths, storage below and a hanging locker. Recent carpeting has been installed here along with the other cabins. Cabin walls are white to create an open airy feeling.

The VIP stateroom has a walk around king size berth with night tables to each side, ensuite head and shower. This cabin also has recent carpeting and white walls to brighten the feel of the stateroom.

Pilothouse

The raised pilot house is the command center of the yacht with a full complement of navigation and information displays. Finished in the same traditional satin teak as the main deck, there is a captain’s desk along with a navigation station in addition to the helm. For longer passages there is a watch berth for the captain to be close by. Family and guests can observe while underway at a chart table with bench seating.

Flybridge

Access to the flybridge is from two locations, from an enclosed stairwell from the aft side deck or from the pilothouse. The teak decks here, like the other decks around the yacht, have white caulking instead of the typical black caulking which give an interesting update to the classic teak deck style. At the flybridge helm is a Stidd helm chair with a matching Stidd chair for an observer. The helm area is covered with a fiberglass hard top with an EZ2CY three sided acrylic enclosure. Guests have seating at an “L” shaped benches seating around a triangular table to both port and rectangular table to the starboard side. Engine and steering wing stations are located on both port and starboard sides giving the captain great visibility for docking.

Boat Deck

A recently installed Quicklift davit with 3,000 pound capacity is mounted in the center of the boat so that the tender can be launched to either side without moving the yacht away from the dock. When the tender is afloat there is a very large area for sunning with bench seating to the stern and chaise chairs to one side. A Jenn-Air barbecue grill, refrigerator and icemaker are located here for alfresco meals. The tender onboard is not included.

Two 12 person Givens SOLAS life rafts and 2 EPIRBs are here as part of the safety equipment.

Aft Deck

This teak covered deck has a large rectangular table with seating for eight. The design of the boat deck above covers the full table and seating area for shade when needed. An interesting feature is the ability to add custom sliding window panels to both sides of the deck to increase comfort when at sea, when it is windy or cool. Doors to the walk around side decks can also be closed in poor weather. If it is too hot and sunny a shade panel at the very aft side of the deck can be put up to block the sun or use as a privacy panel.

Crew will be pleased with the two full size floor to ceilings storage lockers on the aft deck. Connections for a large flat screen television are on a fixed platform to the aft of the deck. Multiple deck style chairs and a chaise can be moved according to guests and how they are being used.  From the aft deck there is a set of stairs that leads to the Lazerette area. Teak covered stairs and deck decks in the Lazerette lead to the water tight transom door leading onto the integral swim platform. A shower here allows guests to rinse the salt off after a swim. Then there is an equipment room with another washer and dryer, a large food freezer and machinery for the two water makers. Another access door here leads to the rudder room for access to steering hydraulics.

Crew Quarters

Grumpy has excellent crew quarters with a crew lounge and galley. The new owner of this Delta is less likely to find a crew member getting a snack at 2 in the morning in the galley as the crew has a separate area. There is a big table for meals at an “L” shaped bench with storage below. In the g crew galley a Viking stainless refrigerator, a big Samsung microwave, and a recent Frigidaire ceramic cooktop.

The captain’s cabin is separate with a full size walk around double berth and ensuite head and shower. There are two other crew cabins each with upper and lower berths plus a private head and shower. The crew mess and each crew cabin have their own satellite TV receiver.

Engine and Mechanical

The current captain of this Delta says the engine room is one of the better ones he has worked in due to the great access to all equipment. With a 26 foot beam mechanical components can be spread out making all equipment easy to service. The engines are Caterpillar 3412 engines that are very low horsepower for the engine displacement. Many of these same CAT 3412 engines are 1300, 1400 or even 1450 horsepower. These commercial engines are only 642 horsepower each at 1850 RPM making them a very long life engine. Currently there are about original 8,700 hours.
