Having grown up on the Great Lakes the owner has been involved with boating since the age of 5.

Here is the story of this original GarWood:

I was intrigued when I found an original GarWood.  Not just any GarWood but the old man's original race boat, the one he built in 1952, on Fisher Island, which he owned at one time, and died with in 1971.

The ORCA was raced until 1963 when she hit a reef during a Miami to Key West race, sustaining damage to her port side bottom.

Gar Wood towed her back to Miami where she was hauled out at Norsemans on the Miami River whereupon she was fixed and cold molded epoxied.  Shown in the photos is a shot of Gar Wood himself standing next to the hull when she was on the hard.

Gar Wood put the ORCA back to work racing and fishing.

Theresa Wood was Gar Wood's daughter-in-law and after extensive research I located her in Tulsa, OK.  She told me about taking the ORCA fishing on her All-Girls fishing team.

Upon Gar Wood's death in 1971 the ORCA was auctioned off to settle his estate and the boat began a new career in smuggling marijuana.

She was confiscated twice for drug running despite never being caught with drugs in her possession, she was much too fast for that at 63mph.

After numerous owners my wife and I purchased the boat in 1999 and honeymooned aboard for five years.

Anthony Mollica, who wrote the book about Gar Wood, provided much information about the boat, calling her the ghost boat.

In 2005 we decided that ORCA needed restoration.  Having done a number of restorations we undertook the task.

At one point the boat looked like a swimming pool, but three years and $400,000 later FRANKLY SCARLETT was painstakingly put back together with new engines, tanks, longitudinals, aft deck, shafts, struts, paint and more.

She is now ready for a full restoration.
