Overview

This Grand Banks 49 Motor Yacht has all the engineering and style that makes Grand Banks yachts the ultimate cruisers.  Island Girl has a factory customized interior designed with cruising in mind.  Her layout accommodates up to 6 adults in 3 staterooms. The galley has been modified to include a large refrigerator and freezer, and the salon is spacious.  Her twin Caterpillar diesel engines deliver reliable power, and push the boat at 9.8 knots running at only 2000 rpm while delivering 2 nautical miles per gallon. The engine room is large and easily accessible either through the salon sole, or under the forward companionway steps.

Design and Layout

We sell and charter Grand Banks boats because we know them to be safe, reliable, comfortable, and economical to run. Grand Bank built its hulls and superstructures of hand-laid fiberglass with epoxy coating and exterior gel-coat.  The decks are typically teak over fiberglass, but many GB owners are opting to have the teak decks removed and the fiberglass decks finished with epoxy paints and non-skid.  Island Girl has fiberglass decks with high bulwarks and teak safety rails on the side and foredecks.  There are stainless steel safety rails at all exterior steps,  on the flybridge, and aft deck.  Navy canvas dodgers beneath the rails increase safety, the flybridge bimini shades the upper helm and guest seating.  Grand Banks built really beautiful teak interiors with multiple layout choices, parquet cabin soles, pleasing and well-built teak cabinetry.  There is ample storage throughout.  This boat has a factory custom layout that is ideal for cruising.  Island Girl can accommodate 3 couples in three cabins, or 6 cruisers overall, plus a child on the settee.

The salon is spacious with ample seating at the oblong teak table on the “L” shaped settee and 2 GB chairs.  The large windows make the main cabin light and can be opened for a breeze.  The galley is forward of the salon on the port side, opposite the lower helm station.  The galley features 2 refrigerator and 2 freezer compartments for extended cruising.  The galley has a smart layout, stainless steel double sink, microwave, range and oven, and ample storage.

Down the forward companionway is the starboard side cabin with 2 single berths, hanging locker, and drawer storage beneath the bunks.  The forward head is to port with a large shower.  Teak grating in Grand Banks heads keep the floors dry and prevent slipping.  The forward cabin has had the V berth modified into a full- size berth.  There are storage lockers below and a hanging locker.

The Owner’s Stateroom is in the aft cabin, down the aft companionway from the salon.  Grand Banks styling and craftsmanship show here with the clever layout and abundance of teak joinery.  There are 2 hanging lockers, 2 bureaus, a desk, and a queen island bed.  There is a full head with shower to starboard of the companionway, and a second head to port with a washer/dryer.

With this “split level” plan Grand Banks has achieved not just comfort and privacy for cruisers, but also a very ample engine room below the salon.  Main access is under the forward companionway steps, and there is an access hatch in the salon.   Storage is plentiful in drawers and cabinets, and there is a workbench.  The twin Caterpillar 300hp engines and other components are easily accessed for maintenance.
