The collaboration between Ocean Alexander, Ed Monk Jr. and a very experienced yachting couple resulted in an outstanding 80’ cockpit motor yacht, Two C’s. This totally custom yacht is one of the over 20 yachts built on this hull design by Ocean Alexander. Many of her features have now become standards in the production line.
Two C’s was built to accommodate 6 owners and guests in 3 very private luxurious suites plus crew. Cruising in elegance, luxury and safety were the goals when she was built and these goals were not only met, but they were exceeded
Two C’s is a head turner in every port of call that she has visited up and down the East Coast of the U.S. Her striking profile and traditional look that is blended with the newest technology has indeed made a yachting statement. As one approaches the yacht, you are struck by the simplicity of the Ed Monk design. Boarding can be amidships or off of the swim platform. Starting aft on the teak clad custom built swim platform one enters the cockpit to find a very thoughtful gas station tucked away in a storage cabinet on the port side. No running ashore to fill your dinghy or jet-ski while out cruising the islands. There is a bait prep center with a stainless steel sink, fresh and salt water washdowns, cockpit shower and great storage, designed into the cockpit. The owner and friends have great photos of large Wahoo and Mahi Mahi being landed in Two C’s cockpit. The four rod holders have been put to good use while cruising. Up the stairs onto the aft deck or California deck, one finds two oval shaped teak tables with comfortable seating for at least eight people. These custom tables are electrically raised and lowered as well as slide in and out. Al fresco dining is so easy, with a Jenn Aire grill, wet bar, and icemaker located on the aft deck. Looking forward, one is impressed with the size of the teak walk arounds. They provide safe passage forward for adults, little people and our four legged family members. The placement of a hidden aft control station allows for backing down on your fish or simply docking.
Entering the main salon through a beautifully executed stainless steel framed glass door, one finds an extremely comfortable gathering spot. With the attention to details that this owner exhibited when building Two C’s, they made several changes that enhance the livability of the yacht. For example, the main salon is 12” deeper than the standard salon. All cabinets were set back to allow for the maximum amount of living space. An oval dining table is located to starboard aft and the view while dining is impressive. A two piece sectional with luxurious “down” seating is located to starboard and forward in the salon underneath the open see thru into the pilothouse. Do not fall in love with the nautical glass topped cocktail table as it does not go with the sale of Two C’s. To port, one finds very comfortable free standing chairs and of course an end table. Further forward along the port side is a very user friendly day head complete with marble sole. The contrasting onyx-marble flooring outside the day head is also extremely lovely. The owner added another custom touch when he removed part of the bulkhead opposite the head giving one an open feeling to this hallway. Exquisite detailed ceilings in both the main salon and the hallway leading into the pilothouse are unique to this yacht.
The galley is a true sea going chef’s dream. There is a plethora of storage, granite clad counter spaces and full sized appliances. The Amana French door style refrigerator is absolutely excellent for stocking up for an extended cruise. In addition to the voluminous freezer drawer, there is an additional freezer located in the crew’s quarters. The double Franke stainless steel sinks are located to starboard under a large window. Standing at the sinks, one has a view of the outside world in four directions. The detailed marble flooring is wonderful on the eye. Thought was definitely put into the selection of appliances including a four burner Kenyon ceramic cooktop, KichenAid oven with convection capabilities, KitchenAid dishwasher, microwave, trash compactor, and a 30 bottle wine chiller. There is nothing like serving chilled to perfection Veuve Clicquot Champagne with an incredible assortment of goodies hot from the oven. Your guests may never leave.
Forward of the galley is the lower command station of Two C’s, here, one finds a tremendous amount of customization all done to enhance the cruising experience. There are two black electric Stidd helm seats for you and your best friend. One will not find this on any other of the Ocean Alexander 80’s or larger. This was accomplished by making adjustments to the actual helm and the adjacent counters along the starboard side. The custom helm allows for larger screens than standard. There is a very wonderful electronic arrangement which duplicates the upper helm that makes one feel like you are at the command of a 747. To port is a custom designed dinette table perfect for spreading out a real paper chart or grabbing a quiet breakfast while under way. The visibility from the pilothouse is second to none.
Proceeding forward and down a gently curving companionway one arrives at a lovely landing complete with an art niche. People say that you can always judge a “real” yacht by the ability to hang art work and the use of real stone, glass and mirrors. Two C’s meets all of these requirements. Onyx-marble flooring and double entry doors into the master stateroom, all add to the feeling of this mega yacht. The foyer outside of the master stateroom is larger than on any other OA this size and yet there is still a hidden full-sized washer and dryer stacked behind gorgeous teak doors. Entering the master stateroom, one finds a luxurious home away from home. Ambient light provided by large opening port lights with Shoji screens make this stateroom very welcoming. The island king has a custom built inner spring mattress to ensure a great night’s sleep. Granite topped bed side night stands allows for storing away of the TV controls, your favorite book and anything else you so desire. There is ample storage throughout this stateroom and is really evident in the walk in cedar lined closet located to port. To starboard, one finds the entry into the head complete with double sinks and storage. Two people can comfortable fit in this custom designed head. The shower is marble lined and has an outstanding shower fixture that will keep you in the shower for hours. Plenty of room for two and lots of water.
Back up to the landing and forward, one finds the very large twin stateroom located to port complete with its own large private head and full sized shower. The twin bunks have storage underneath as well as a cedar lined hanging locker. There are even custom designed head boards to keep ones pillows from leaping onto the floor. The uncompromising attention to woodwork is found even in this guest cabin. Opening port lights also provide nice lighting. The choices of granites are very pleasing to the eye.
All the way forward one finds the VIP suite. If there is one drawback to this yacht it is the VIP suite, definitely too comfortable for guests. They will never want to leave as they will feel like royalty in this suite. I know, as I have spent a few nights here and personally did not want to vacate the premises. To prevent possible water intrusion in the bow area, this owner decided to remove the port lights from the original design and to add two deck hatches for both safety and great natural lighting. Total privacy is assured with day shades and screens. There is a custom designed island queen berth with an inner spring mattress and includes cedar lined hanging lockers and plenty of storage. By making adjustments, the owner was able to create plenty of elbow room by enlarging both the VIP and adjoining head featuring a full sized granite shower, enhanced ceiling heights and opening port lights for natural lighting.
The second most used area of this lovely yacht is the bridge area. It is easily accessed via both an internal staircase from the pilothouse or from the aft deck or California deck. When you step on to the bridge, the first thing that you notice is the extremely user friendly design. Not only are there three Stidd helm seats, but there are two very comfortable settees with tables. The hard top was custom designed so that it extends further aft than the standard one. This allowed for great storage and another al fresco galley. One can seat a dozen people comfortably for those evening cocktails under the stars and still have dancing from aft of the seating. The second Jenn Aire barbeque, wet bar and refrigerator/ice maker is located to port and the lobsters have only a short journey to the table. With her 20’ beam, she carries a 15’ wide body RIB and still has room for a jet ski and dancing.
A complete duplication of all electronics is found on this custom designed helm station that features a plethora of electronics. All are easy to reach from the center helm seat. Even though she is an open bridge, the owners decided to add air conditioning so that if you do have inclement weather, drop the new Eisinglass panels and switch on the AC. Visibility is excellent and she responds like a race horse with her C-32 Cats. One can cruise at 10 knots burning less than 20 gallons an hour or one can cruise at 20 plus knots without fear.
The entrance to the crew quarters and the engine room are located aft in the cockpit. Another change that one will find here from the standard yacht, there are stairs rather than a ladder down into the crew’s area. The crew cabin is located to port and features a single berth that is custom designed. There is also the option of replacing the upper berth. The captain has been full time since the yacht arrived in the U.S. The owner also designed a special lazarette accessed through a water tight door, through the crew cabin that leads out to the flats. As anyone knows, easy access to steering, Glenndinngs, watermakers, etc. is a wonderful feature for a cruising yacht. A mini galley consisting of sink, micro, refrigerator and a freezer just makes sense. The head is large and very accommodating.
The full stand up engine room is the pride and joy of both the owner and his captain. Everything absolutely gleams and shows the amount of attention that is lavished on the whole yacht. Awl gripped white bilges with blue lighting under the C-32 Cats is a knock out. Highly polished stainless is everywhere. The sea chest that this owner custom ordered works extremely well, and cuts down on the number of holes in the bottom of the yacht. Redundancy is everywhere from the twin generators to the fresh water pumps. The idea was to design an engine room that was truly user friendly. One can get to things to service machinery. There is even a stainless steel step over the shafts making it easy to access the outboard side of the engines. Calibrated sight gages are so wonderful to find on your tanks. The fuel transfer manifold is a work of art in stainless steel. A touch of the buttons and one can drain all four engines of oil and replace as needed. The chilled air conditioning system is easy to access as well. There are stainless steel engine beds, grab rails around the engines and extra sound deadening material built into this area.
I could go on and on about the attributes of this proven sea going yacht, but I won’t. I have given you some of her highlights and encourage you to visit her and see for yourself. She has been cared for by very knowledgeable hands-on owner and captain who are both extremely detailed oriented. Continually waxed, her gel coat gleams. Her teak decks which are mostly under cover are lovely to see. Complete service records are available as well are the schematics and all of the manuals. Two C’s is loved and used on a regular basis. She has been spending her summers cruising the East Coast and at the time of this writing, is slowly working her way back home to Florida.
The yacht is ready for the new owner to travel and enjoy Mother Ocean, but without the personal items of the owners and captain, the coffee table in the main salon and the artwork. A full list of exemptions will be provided. One could order a new Ocean Alexander to duplicate this lovely yacht and wait for over a year and spend almost one and a half times her asking price, or you can go yachting now with a proven winner.
