Overview

Bagheera, the 2002 Grand Alaskan 53, is a world-class, stabilized cruising trawler with a brilliant floor plan. She has a very flexible power generation system fed from multiple sources. Propulsion comes from twin Lugger diesels and a bow thruster helps in tight spots. Two large staterooms in addition to a pilot berth at the helm and a large, open living area make life aboard extremely pleasant. For outdoor living, an integrated swim platform, covered aft deck and huge flybridge top it all off. Bagheera is ready for blue water cruising or the Great Loop is easy with an air draft of under 16 feet and water draft of 5 feet fully loaded.

Overview

*Additional information and photos coming soon*

Bagheera, the 2002 model Grand Alaskan 53, was located in the great lakes until July of 2007 and therefore spent many months out of the water and sun while stored in a heated warehouse. Twin 174 hp Lugger diesels were ordered for this boat, which was a very rare option. The Lugger diesels are commonly the engine of choice for cruising trawlers and commercial fishing boats because of their extremely long life-span and excellent reliability. Long distance travel is made very comfortable due to Bagheera’s well thought-out design. The covered aft deck is accessed either through bulwark doors on either side or from the integral swim platform. Covered side decks lead forward to steps which lead to the raised pilothouse level. An overhang protects the pilothouse doors and windshield from light rain and sun and the side decks on this level continue forward to a Portuguese bridge. A centerline doorway leads to the roomy foredeck and anchoring equipment. Inside, large spaces continue from the salon, through the galley, up to the pilothouse and down the companionway to two very large staterooms with heads en suite. The engine room can be entered easily through the master stateroom or the aft deck. The flybridge, which is up the staircase from the pilothouse, has an upper helm, plenty of seating and a dinghy with davit. Bagheera is ready to travel with stabilization and 4kw inverter or 16kw of power from her Northern Lights genset. Fuel burn at 9 knots is reported to be 4.6 gph.

Aft Deck

The large, covered aft deck is easily entered through port or starboard gates in the bulwarks or through a transom door from the integrated swim platform. A settee lies centerline aft of a table and contains storage. This area is very comfortable for outdoor dining and general deck operations. Line handling is a breeze due to walk-around decks. A hatch in the sole leads to a lazarette containing a washer, dryer, rudder gear and loads of storage in addition to aft access to the engine room.

Granite counters cover cabinets, a Bosch dishwasher and trash compactor. A double stainless steel sink and ceramic cooktop are across from each other and the convection microwave oven is above, providing ventilation and extra light. There is a granite counter above the sink’s backsplash which serves as a breakfast bar.
