"Promises" is an impeccable example of one of the most highly regarded cruising yachts ever made.  She is hull #1461 of a grand total of 1,560 Grand Banks' 42s made since production first began in 1965.  Kept predominantly on the brackish waters of the Chesapeake Bay her current owners purchased "Promises" from us back in 2007.  They have maintained the boat with an open checkbook, have full records and she is ready for her next owner to get right on board and enjoy!  Please feel free to email me for a pdf of her logbook so you can get a sense of how she was consistently cruised, maintained and never left sitting idle!

Powered by the twin 375hp CAT 3208TA's, "Promises" benefits from the most preferred engine package for those seeking reliability, economy, and the flexibility to actual pick up and run if weather or scheduling dictate the need.  At 34,900lbs she cruises quite efficiently and comfortably between 8 and 12 knots and at wide open throttle she will see speeds reaching 16 knots.

"Promises" has seen continuous annual updates and additions to her inventory throughout her lifetime and she is well equipped with a full list of cruising, comfort, and safety features. She if outfitted for the serious cruiser with watermaker, large battery banks, massive anchor and chain ground tackle, and a fiberglass bottomed tender.  She is perfect for cruising from the Exumas to Maine and is ready to go now!

Salon

The owner of "Promises" has contracted a professional canvas and marine interior company to recover the interior salon and v-berth cushions (upgrading to an Ultra-leather), replace the interior curtains, replace the exterior textaline window covers and re-do all of the flybridge cushions.  Work is slated to be done in September of 2016!

Engine Room & Mechanical

"Promises" benefits from an owner who firmly believes in fixing things prior to failure and is willing to spend the money to keep the mechanicals in top shape.  The boat sees at least one or more trip to Haven Harbour (a GB authorized service center) annually and the owner is always ahead of the curve with a punch list of items that he sees professionally completed year after year.  Haven Harbour has completed costly maintenance items such as the replacement of the dripless shaft seals, renewal of cutlass bearings and having the propellers being tuned.  They have also completed items such as replacement of all five AGM 8-D batteries, re-manufacturing and upgrading alternators, servicing/replacing of pumps,  rebuilding of the watermaker, adding an anchor washdown and much, much more!  The Caterpillars and Generator are also serviced and maintained professionally and receive proactive care just like the rest of the boat (Thousand Hour Service Just Completed!). These are just a few of the examples of outstanding care and good preventative maintenance that "Promises" receives!

  • Twin 375hp 3208TA Caterpillar engines - Professionally Serviced and Maintained - Currently at just over 2900 hours - Full Records Available and Up to Date on all Services
  • Prior to a recent trip (July & Aug 2016) from the Chesapeake Bay to Nantucket the owner had Alban Caterpillar onboard for a preventative check up.  Alban sea trailed the boat with the owner and completed a Blow-By Test at WOT with both motors coming out with good results.  Alban completed a preventative valve job on both engines and replaced all CAT Fuel Lines.
  • Upon completion of the Summer 2016 trip the owner took "Promises" back to Haven Harbour where the CAT 1,000 Hour Service was completed including additional preventatives such as:

Vessel Walkthrough

Grand Banks 42 layout: guest cabin forward with V-berth and en-suite head with shower.  The salon offers a straight line galley forward to port, lower helm opposite to starboard.  Aft of helm is dry bar with ice maker, a large L-settee with corner table top/storage and the classic teak GB yacht table.  Opposite the salon table, on the port side, is a 2-person settee with corner built-in freezer.  The aft cabin features a centerline island queen berth.  The head is a very functional “split-head” in that the shower stall is on starboard with head and sink to port.
