Remarks

After 17,000 hours of professional restoration, Josephine is as ‘done’ as a wood yacht can be.  Proud winner of the Pacific Northwest Classic Yacht Association Restoration Award and a regular favorite in People’s Choice Awards, Josephine embodies the perfect balance of “restoration” and “new”, combined in a yacht that is both elegant and modern. To say her restoration, and her current owner of 24 years, is “meticulous” would be an understatement.

In 1947, Mr. Frank Hawkins, a prominent Seattle auto dealer, commissioned Edwin Monk, Sr. to design a 43’ bridge-deck cruiser to accommodate his love of fishing and his desire to cruise to Alaska. The result is the incomparable Josephine, built by Blanchard Boat Yard with 1” Western Red Cedar planking, wedge seamed above the waterline, held to a fir backbone and 1¼” oak frames by bronze fasteners. Josephine sports an airy interior, amazing visibility, and unusually large cockpit and aft deck. Her interior design allows for comfortable living for two while easily accommodating 20+ for dinner and an evening cruise.

After the port engine ejected the number three rod twenty minutes after her current owner purchased her, the decision was made to proceed with extensive restoration. Stripped to the bulkheads and frames, Josephine has a new interior, cork cabin soles, new copper fuel and water systems, new tanks (300 gas, 150 water, 60 holding, 15 diesel, 10 propane), new 12v and 110v electrical systems, Furuno electronics, and Webasto hydronic heat. The original Chrysler Crowns, transmissions, and V-drives were rebuilt and installed under a new mahogany cockpit and yellow cedar aft deck. The decks were replaced with 1” varnished Honduras, and new mahogany trim added to rebuilt canvas cabin tops. She has an extended swim step, is fitted with Honduras garboards, and is refastened with silicone bronze.

A current survey is available, consistent maintenance maintains her desirability, a custom-built wherry gets you to and from anchorage in style, and her covered moorage is available.
