Overview

This plush 72-foot personal Executive Motor Yacht named “Maya Caye” is in honor of the Central American country of Belize. The beauty of this country was a motivating factor in both the design and subsequent destination as a “Port of Call” for the Maya Caye. The original inhabitants of this beautiful country were the Mayan Indians. Its many cayes (islands, pronounced as “keys”) lie within the country’s borders. Belize is the home of the second largest living reef in the world making it a prime destination for avid scuba divers.

The Maya Caye is equipped with three State Rooms, all with full private baths and entertainment centers. An additional full bath serves the salon with another 1/2 bath in the pilothouse crew quarters bringing the total to five.

All ceiling throughout the boat are finished in Mercedes headliner with the main salon’s center being mirrored.

The salon walls are finished with Andes Rosewood as accents between padded upholstered panels and furnished with two triple sectional black leather reclining sofas along its portside wall. Four “swivel” bar stools are strategically placed at the forward salon’s bar providing a panoramic view over the bow of the boat, allowing additional dining and social seating.

The galley is furnished with Andes Rosewood cabinets, trash compactor, dishwasher, and Jenn-Air downdraft range, microwave/convection oven and a side-by-side refrigerator freezer. All appliances are black accenting the black Corian countertops.

A pantry is located below deck and is accessible through a hatch from the master stateroom. The pantry houses two chest-type freezers, a clothes washer, and dryer and shelving/storage space.

The master stateroom walls are finished in Italian Rosewood. The two below-deck staterooms are done completely with upholstered wall panels with adjoining heads and vanity tops of white Corian.

A pair of fuel efficient 300-horse power John Deere turbo charged diesel engines, with a John Deere 20 Kilowatt diesel generator power the Maya Caye. The fuel capacity of 1500 gallons allow for long-range voyages of up to 1500 miles between refuels. A portable handheld remote control helm allows for docking and backing.

The living area environment is controlled by five 24,000 BTU a/c heat pumps. Potable fresh water storage of 325 gallons and an on-board water maker allow for extended trips. In addition to waste holding tanks, a Raritan Lectra San MC waste treatment system (with salt feed) is connected to the SeaLand’s VacuFlush system. Four of the toilets are connected to the vacuum system with the fifth toilet being gravity fed to be functional if there is a loss of power.

The vessel is equipped with a central sound system providing indoor/outdoor speaker selection. The closed circuit TV system aids both safety and communication. The stern is equipped with a hydraulically powered swim platform along with a hydraulically powered garage door that has space for two personal watercraft.

The vessel is equipped with an electrically operated anchor and bow thruster. Located directly aft the pilothouse is an elevated arch where a land base TV antenna, radar array and communications equipment are currently mounted. There is space for the addition of satellite television and satellite telephone domes.

Though built to handle large waves during ocean navigation, the Maya Caye is designed to travel both river and inland water systems. Stainless steel shoes/skegs are installed under the propellers and attached to the bottom of the rudders, thereby protecting them.

The Maya Caye’s hull, manufactured by Navigator Boats, is the same as their many 65’ commercial vessels. These vessels have been certified by the United States Coast Guard as having an approved capacity of up to 149 passengers. Construction of the hull consists of ten layers of fiberglass and five below-deck watertight bulkheads creating a safety factor surpassing a typical Hatteras or Bertram yacht.  Walrath Construction did a superior job of taking the hull and completing it as the 72-foot personal yacht “Maya Caye”.

Broker's Comments

The Maya Caye is a one of a kind Motor Yacht. Designed and built by Mike Bonner for her current owner, she is based on the 65’ head boats that Mike was so widely known for. The owner had Mike incorporate the additional garage and swim platform into the original design and construction of the boat. While she is rigging and appointments make her a perfect personal motor yacht she can easily be converted to a commercial platform for almost any use.
