Overview

VIKING IV is a three stateroom, three head sailing yacht with additional crew quarters, and great accommodation. She has a raised saloon, centre cockpit and inside steering station.

She is equipped to be self-sustained for long periods of time.

Twin diesel engine power plant provides good cruising speed and manoeuvrability and her sail plan provides good sailing characteristics.

Shoal draft Scheel keel allows for additional exploration and access to the smaller harbours and anchorages.

The boat was purchased by the current owner in 2010 from the USA and April 2010 crossed the Atlantic from Charleston to Gibraltar and later on to Almerimar and Italy.

In the years 2010 and 2011 she was refitted and upgraded.  From 2010 she has had her home port in Italy near Rome.  The vessel has never chartered and has always been maintained by a skipper. The vessel wintered ashore 2013-4 and 2014-5 and will be ashore also 2015-16. She enjoys continuous upgrades and maintenance.

Hull and Deck

The exterior of VIKING IV is in very fine condition. The topsides are fair and glossy. The teak decks are glued, not screwed, and in fine condition. The decks are wide and plenty of hand holds make it safe to move around the yacht. The cockpit is large and comfortable. Deck storage space is good. The exterior varnish is in good condition. Boarding is a breeze via two side gates and the scoop transom with carbon fibre passerelle.

VIKING IV is unique in that she has over one inch of foam insulation on the inside of the hull from the waterline down. This was unique to hull #1 for travelling to Antarctica. This makes the hull noticeably quieter, warmer in cold water and cooler in hot climates. This at-the-waterline insulation can be seen at a point in the wet locker, just aft of the navigation station, where the thickness of the insulation is visible.

Engine and Mechanical

Twin Mercedes OM352 @ 120 HP

The large engine room has good head room, even under the cockpit portion. This area is well equipped making maintenance easy. You enter the engine room from the companionway leading from the salon to the master cabin. There is also a small hatch from the cockpit.

VIKING IV has a 2000 NM range @ 8.5 knots.

Cruising Speed: 8.5 knots

Max Speed: 9.0 knots

Accommodation

 INTERIOR

VIKING IV has wonderful accommodation on deck and below deck. There are boarding gates port and starboard plus the scoop transom for easy boarding from dinghy or floating docks. The teak deck is in a good condition and has a very good non-skid platform. The side decks are wide for easy and safe movement fore and aft.

The large centre cockpit is protected by a dodger and bimini top, Additional dodgers are installed on both sides of the cockpit. Seating is good (with two sets of cushions - one for deliveries, and one for comfort). There is a solidly mounted double drop leaf, teak table forward of the Edson pedestal.

The interior designer was Sylvia Bolton.

You enter VIKING IV through a centreline companionway directly into the saloon. This is a low profile pilothouse yacht, the head room in the saloon is fantastic. Actually headroom throughout the rest of the yacht is also very good. Very light and airy saloon with good visibility.

The starboard aft portion of the saloon is a large C-shaped dinette / lounge area.

Forward to starboard is the very well equipped galley.

Directly across from the galley is the inside helm station.

The navigation station/chart table area is aft of the helm.

The two guest staterooms with upper/lower single berths, each with a head and shower are forward.

The starboard guest stateroom has an en-suite head with separate shower stall.

You may walk through the port guest stateroom to get to the captain and crew quarters with V-berths, sink, and head. You may also enter the crew quarters through a foredeck hatch.

The master stateroom is aft with a double bed to starboard and a single bed to port. These berths are separated by a settee along the aft bulkhead. The en-suite head and separate shower stall are very nice. Storage for personal items is not a problem throughout the yacht, especially in this cabin. There are two deck hatches with screens and sun shades.

A companionway connects the master stateroom to the saloon.

The large engine room is entered from the companionway.

There is a washer and dryer and storage lockers in this companionway.

The engine room houses a long list of equipment including the two Mercedes OM352 diesel engines, two generators, water-maker, and a workable tool bench and tool chest.

VIKING IV has good ventilation via opening ports, dorades, and hatches. She is light and airy. She has electric fans throughout to move air.

Navigation

VIKING IV has two stations, both well equipped. The main helm is in the cockpit; the inside helm is located in the forward portion of the salon to port. The visibility from the inside helm is good. The chart table is behind the inside helm.
