HYDRAULICS | |
There are three hydraulic accumulators. These function as a pressure reservoir in which a non-compressible hydraulic fluid is held under pressure by a prop-shaft driven hydraulic pump unit that even supplies the required power from the prop-shaft when under sail. The system supplies extra power to run the sail winches, halyards etc. without generator power.
When the hydraulic pump is connected to the propeller shaft, it is possible to sail without any use of the engine or generators for stretches of 12 – 24 hour depending on charge of the batteries. The propeller pump is capable of holding the autopilot & hydraulic winches operational. The hydraulic energy is stored in aforementioned accumulators. The battery capacity is very large to keep all electronics live for a long time. Silver Spray can sail absolutely silently.

100 YEARS OF SAILING |
|
SILVER SPRAY is a remarkable yacht. Perhaps she should be more properly described as a sailing ship. She has had a long and varied history, beginning her life as a pilot ship for the approaches to the major Dutch ports during the First World War. Later, after she was replaced in Pilot service by more modern vessels, she plied the North Sea and Arctic waters as a fishing boat and later still served as a patrol vessel around the Faroe Islands to maintain their neutrality during the Second World War. She passed through several owners until she returned to Holland and was completely rebuilt in 1999. In 2014 she had a complete refit. She now complies with Register Holland White Rules for sea going vessels worldwide and for up to 30 day guests.
Under her current ownership, she has been upgraded to full luxury “yacht” standards while maintaining her integrity as a historic vessel. In 2016, she celebrated her centenary, and joined the very rare sailing ships of the world to reach this milestone. SILVER SPRAY represents so much more than a “classic schooner”. She is part of history and the appreciation of this history cannot be explained in words. It is, however, evident to any discerning buyer on stepping aboard.
SILVER SPRAY was built from the lines of AMERICA, the famous yacht which won the first America's Cup in 1851 having crossed the Atlantic.
SILVER SPRAY is immaculate and in First Class condition.
