Overview

$$$$ PRICE JUST REDUCED ON THIS ECO-FRIENDLY BEAUTY!!!!

A classic, solid, and seaworthy bluewater vessel upgraded to a fully hybrid eco-conscious cruiser in 2014! Minimize your environmental impact with this beautifully appointed, seaworthy, and solid staysail ketch. Sold fiberglass construction, beautiful lines, and state-of-the art technology make this boat incredibly unique.

One of the only classic fiberglass sailboats you will ever see that has been completely outfitted as the perfect vessel for the environmentally conscious!

This Pearson 530 is a classic Bill Shaw design. The owner has painstakingly and lovingly done everything you could possibly imagine to make a great boat even better. She was repowered in 2014 with an ELCO electric hybrid engine system.  The ELCO 7000 has the horsepower equivalent of a 70 HP diesel engine, and, with 170 gallons of diesel specifically for running the new Westerbeke generator, her range under power is 1,000 miles. Maintenance is only required on the engine every 50,000 hours! And the eco-footprint is minimal.

The hybrid system is powered by a full and brand new battery bank of 9 12V batteries, which are charged by a new Westerbeke diesel generator with only 386 hours on it at the time of listing. Solar panels and a wind generator fully charge the house batteries (also new--the entire boat has been re-wired).

This is one of the very few cruising sailboats you will see of this vintage and quality that has been so lovingly upgraded. The Pearson 530 was the biggest and most luxurious of the Bill Shaw designs for Pearson in the 1980's. This go-anywhere bluewater yacht is built like a tank out of solid fiberglass, but sails beautifully.  She features a powerful rig supported by massive oversized rigging. With her apartment-size master stateroom, spacious galley, two forward staterooms, walk-in engine room, and light filled salon,  this is a boat that a family could cruise and live aboard forever.

Only a handful of these boats were built, and none were refitted as beautifully as this one. Among the improvements are:

  • Hybrid ELCO 7000 engine with new bank of 9 batteries
  • New Westerbeke generator 12.6 BTD
  • New fixed-blade prop that charges batteries while sailing
  • New house batteries and all new wiring
  • New solar and wind power
  • New Sea Frost refrigeration
  • New Cruisair Air Conditioner for main salon and aft (with reverse heat)
  • New Webasco 9000 BTU AC in forward cabin (with reverse heat)
  • New bow thrusters
  • New 6-man liferaft
  • All new Quantum sails
  • All new canvas
  • Refinished brightwork inside and out (7 coats of varnish!)
  • New 3 blade Michigan Wheel fixed prop that charges batteries while under sail
  • New 2" shaft and cutlass bearing
  • So much more!

This is a boat you will fall in love with. She has classic lines but is as spacious and comfortable as many of the much clumsier motor-sailors of her era. She was built to perform and to last, and her upgrades appeal to those who love classic sailboats but who also appreciate new technology. The hybrid power is only the beginning. Her loving owner has installed bow thrusters, solar panels, a wind generator, new refrigeration, all new electronics, a new watermaker, and MUCH more.

Call now! She is a one-of-a-kind beauty!
