| The beautiful ‘Spirit of Rani’, launched by Spirit Yachts as the first DH (for Deckhouse) 60, is the result of the combined skills of the Spirit Yachts team, benefitting from many years’ experience in hand crafting custom wooden sailboats. These lovely craft, with their traditional looking varnished hulls, belie their modern and sleek underwater shapes, carbon rigs, and easily handled sail plans. | |
| Spirit of Rani made her racing debut at the 2013 Antigua Classic Week, and proceeded to bring home no less than three ‘First of Class’ awards, both for racing prowess and for good looks. She won the single-handed race, showing the ease with which she can be sailed by one man alone, something the current owner is very keen on, and regularly does. | |
| The use of seemingly traditional materials used in the construction of the hull of Spirit of Rani is actually misleading – it is the use of modern epoxy glues that give ‘Spirit of Rani’ her remarkable combination of strength, lightness and good looks. The well-tried technique of laminated frames is used throughout, as indeed the hull is, with the outer layer of mahogany laid fore and aft, and finished bright.
