After owning many of the normal production type express sport cruisers, ELIELLE owner came to the point in his yachting career where he wanted more than any of them could offer; in terms of speed, quality, luxury detail, engineering precision and pedigree, they all fell far short.  So, in designing and building his own yacht, for styling and performance coupled with fast speeds he chose Michael Peters who has a proven record in this area.  For the interior he chose the critical eye of Jan Carlos Espinosa.  For quality and simplicity of engineering he chose McMullen and Wing in New Zealand to build ELIELLE.

ELIELLE is a unique yacht that looks fast and acts the part with speeds near 40 knots.  The detail everywhere is incredible, and the finishes are better than any comparable yacht.

Some of the well thought out design features are outlined below and were purposefully added because her peers lacked such detail.

ELIELLE has full walk around side decks, flush from the aft deck to the bow that do not affect the profile yet add an added degree of safety for children or an owner who wishes to handle the yacht himself.  No more climbing over seats and hanging onto wobbly side deck rails!

An aft tender garage houses an Aquascan Custom Jet tender which is easily launched with a custom designed knuckle boom crane.  The swim platform is wide and generous and is not disrupted when the door is open in the up position, also providing a shaded lounging area.

Engine room access is not down a steep ladder or through a tight hatch, but rather through a 6’ pneumatic hatch and down a shallow stairway.  Once in the engine room there is 6’3” headroom and incredible access around all machinery.  An emergency escape is through the tender garage.  The engine room is befitting a much larger yacht and the engineering within is superb.

The propulsion choices from the MTU 16V2000 M91 2000 hp engines was either conventional propellers which would not give the performance required, Arnesons which have relatively poor handling characteristics, menacing propellers and high maintenance, or water jets which were ultimately chosen as the best option for speed, noise, vibration, tracking and most importantly handling.  Rolls Royce Kamewa A56 water jets were chosen with the proprietary VectorStick Control and the built in “Interceptor” trim tab on the Kamewa aids in tracking.  A bow and stern thruster, and the joystick control system at the main helm or outside from the starboard deck or from the aft deck portside station make docking a breeze with no blind spots.

The propulsion choice was proven correct with top speeds in excess of 35 knots, and easy cruising near 30 knots in almost any sea condition.  The joystick control system and the water jets inherent ability to maintain precise slow speed control has proven itself over and over again in reliable maneuverability in all situations.  This is extremely important for an owner handling the yacht himself, and the simplicity and precision for this system is remarkable.

Other niceties include an electro-hydraulic Opramare swim ladder built underneath the swim platform which can also be operated by someone in the water; a key concern for an owner operator; a single sea chest reduces drag and makes maintenance easier and small cameras built into the hull under the rubrails and at the bow give shorthanded operators a perfect view when docking alongside or approaching a mooring buoy.  Adjacent to each mooring cleat recess are lockers for the lines, and forward either side of the expansive foredeck sun pad are expansive storage lockers for fenders and lines.

A forward seat on the foredeck hinges up with anchor windlass and chain locker access under.

ELIELLE sleeps six in the owner’s party in three staterooms, each with an en-suite bathroom.

Headroom in the main deck salon is 6’ 8” to 7’ 4”.  It is 7’ 4” in the lower salon and 6’ 8” in the staterooms.

ADDED: Juan Carlos Espinosa, who designed the interior, has also made a proposal for adding a private crew cabin with a head on the outboard side of the lower salon, retaining the lower salon largely as it exists now, albeit smaller.

The interior, designed by Juan Carlos Espinosa, is beautifully finished and superbly detailed throughout.  Below decks the staterooms and lower salon and galley area are finished in Sapelli mahogany with judicious use of leathers and fabrics, and white onyx in all the bathrooms.  On deck ELIELLE is finished with white or metallic silver lacquer in some areas, mixed with satin finished close grained teak for the table and adjacent cabinetry and lather covers the helm station and helm settees.

The main deck salon is really the social center of the yacht, and was designed to be functionally an indoor/outdoor space to both embrace the elements when agreeable and provide complete protection when not.

The dominant features of the main deck salon are natural light and air.  In addition to the forward windshield with only a single centerline mullion, the deck house is lit up through full-length glass windows port and starboard (one piece) and a pair of electrically actuated semi-circular glass doors at the aft end of the salon.  To provide fresh air when the weather allows, the forward sections of the side windows port and starboard drop down automotive style, and an 8’6” X 9’6” sunroof over the helm and salon slides aft to let in the sunshine.  With everything opened up, the salon has a truly outdoor feel to it, while providing ample protection from sun and wind.  Even at 40 knots with the sunroof open there is no wind penetration into the main salon – a testament to the aerodynamic styling of this yacht.

The helm seat accommodates two to starboard with a matching seat to port.  The simple but comprehensive instrument layout is centered in front of the helm, while the ships main switch panel and other local controls are located within easy reach of the port seat but hidden behind leather upholstered panels to keep the area clean and uncluttered.

Short-handed or even single handed operation is aided by the opening side windows which allow the helmsman direct communication with those on deck or dockside.  The opening windows also eliminated the need for a forward wing station as the helm, joy stick and bow and stern thruster controls are within easy reach through the window while standing on deck!  A door on the starboard side gives deck access from within the salon.

Aft of the helm and companion seating a large U-shaped settee is to starboard surrounding an electric hi lo teak table.  This area is raised one step to maximize the view through the full length side windows and rear salon doors.  Opposite the settee on the port side is a full service bar surrounded by ample counter space, sink, refrigerator, a dishwasher and storage cabinets.  A plasma TV raises from a port side aft cabinet, matched on the starboard side.

On the aft deck there is a semi-elliptical settee and hi lo table facing forward, which accommodates 6-8 people and communicates directly with the salon when the doors are open.  A remote control station is aft to port, hidden in a deck locker.

The cozy lower salon and galley area amidships has a sitting area to port with a sofa and two built in arm chairs surrounding a coffee table.  The galley is to starboard with cook top and appliances unobtrusively built into cabinets below a longitudinal countertop.  An entertainment center effectively separates the two areas and provides wall space for the TV to be viewed by everyone in the seating area.  Both areas are bathed in natural light courtesy of the tinted glass dead lights in the hull sides.

The below deck areas can be closed off from the more informal deck salon by an electric hatch, keeping the interior air conditioned but the salon area naturally ventilated.

Without the need for crew or the desire for an excessive number of guests ELIELLE has a delightful spacious master stateroom forward with queen berth and adjoin onyx bathroom with over-sized shower forward.

Aft of the lower salon and down two steps past the laundry room in the curving hallway with circular foyer at the end are two additional guest suites.  They are well separated from the main salon area forward.  To port is a twin berth stateroom with excellent space due to the beam of ELIELLE.  An en suite bathroom is forward with over-sized shower.

Opposite to starboard is a queen berth stateroom.  This stateroom has its bathroom forward, again with over-sized shower and access through the second door to the foyer, making it also the day bathroom.

The engine room is aft of the guest area and the tender garage is further aft.

ELIELLE is as described in her design, performance and care.  She was painted by Rybovich in July of 2011 and had very few blisters, a testament to her original build paint and excellent care.  Several system upgrades have been performed and she is in turn key condition.  This is a special boat whose build quality is head and shoulders above comparative styled builds currently offered.
