Overview

The Dettling 51 is one of the most functional, high-quality-built and engineered two stateroom 51’ motor yachts in existence. The Dettling 51 is arguably in a class by itself. In addition, while cruising aboard SIREN’S SONG, one will find she is easy and fun to operate, quiet running, smooth riding, stable and fuel efficient, making for one of the greatest pleasures of owning a boat of this quality.  Immaculate inside and out.

Accommodations

ACCOMMODATIONS:

The spacious Aft Deck has a teak high/low fold-out table that seats six, 11/16” laid teak decking with removable soft patches for engine removal if necessary, plus a hinged emergency-access hatch. A fixed settee on the aft bulkhead of the pilothouse seats two.

The Main Salon entrance is down a gently-sweeping accommodation ladder from the pilothouse. The Salon is well lit, with large glass fixed port lights positioned to allow full-horizon visibility from a standing or seated position. An L-shaped settee with high/low expanding teak table is to starboard, and two swiveling occasional chairs are to port.  The flat screen TV is mounted on the forward half-wall separating the galley from the salon. Four opening hatches with screens overhead, two recessed decks and bottle and glass storage are just some of the built-in features. All interior wood joinery is teak and finished with six coats of hand-rubbed varnish.

The Galley is immediately forward of the Salon separated from it by a half-wall/counter and down two steps. The Galley is spacious and functional and has abundant storage, natural light and ventilation. White Corian counters, dual stainless sinks, teak cabinets with recessed lighting and teak parquet sole all make for a comfortable and functional space for the chef.

Immediately forward of the Galley is the Owner’s Stateroom, which features a generous walk-around queen-sized berth with 5” mattress, ample storage (bookcases, night tables, under-berth storage drawers and hanging lockers), a flat-screen TV and more. The ensuite head is forward, with a tiled stall shower. Headroom is 6’-6”.

Down three steps from the Main Salon, aft, is the Guest Stateroom, which features an offset queen berth to port and an ensuite head and stall shower to starboard. In addition there is a Laundry Area and access door to the stand-up Engine Room.

COMMENTS:

Rarely does a yacht builder spend as much time and effort on every detail of his creation as Ed Dettling. Every Dettling is started and finished as if it was going to be the last boat Ed Dettling ever built and his legacy. Many builders would like to make this claim but the Dettling 51 truly does live up to it. The quality of craftsmanship is unmistakable. Immediately apparent is the golden hand-rubbed teak interior, extraordinary visibility and the natural light that makes the boat feel bigger than it actually is. Less obvious, the painstaking methodology used to fabricate and install every piece of equipment, features like a walk-in standup engine room (almost never seen a boat of this size), or redundant systems that practically guarantee that you will not have any reason to make any repairs underway. Every piece of equipment is placed with the forethought that if someday someone is going to need to replace or repair it they could do so easily. Ventilation, storage, wiring accessibility, ship handling, tender storage, anchor washing, engine removal, rain water collection for wash downs, and many more details have been thought out, engineered, perfected, and built into the boat.

Very experienced yachtsmen have maintained and upgraded SIREN'S SONG to the level of quality and care to which she was built.
