The Hunt 52 is an elegant, gentleman’s cruiser with down east styling and world-class build quality. She is quite fast at her 30-knot cruise speed and very comfortable thanks to her Raymond Hunt, deep-V hull design. Her beautiful salon, with an opening sunroof, flows seamlessly from the helm station to the aft deck seating area on one level. Below and forward are a galley, two staterooms, and heads. The engine room is extremely roomy and this 52 offers a tender garage as well. Unlike the later Hunt 52 models, this one has the preferable conventional shaft drive system.
The roomy salon is beautifully appointed with cherry wood surrounding a U-shaped settee and bar with pop-up TV. A large section of glass in the ceiling with a sliding section sends light streaming in when the shades are not deployed. Large, sliding glass doors, aft, continue the open feel as well as providing excellent sightlines from the helm. A cleverly designed passenger seat for the helm lowers to give the option of completing the U-shape of the seating area.
The helm offers unparalleled sightlines. Her full instrumentation and controls are easy to access and communication with one’s crew is made simple because of the opening windshield section, opening windows to port and starboard of the helm and the sliding salon doors. The passenger seat is on an electric lift enabling it to be placed on the same level as the helm seat. When not in use, it may be lowered and the seat-back reversed to become part of the U-shaped seating for the salon.
The aft deck is on the same level as the salon, making it an extension of the living area, especially when the sunshade is deployed. Beautiful, molded seating, a fixed table, and folding chairs provide an additional dining option. Side decks are also on the same level, located outboard of the storage consoles. The aft cleats, swim platform, and tender garage are accessed through gates and down a few steps. A center hatch leads to top access to the garage and side hatches lead to large storage areas which extend to the steering gear and beneath the garage section.
The fully appointed galley is downstairs from the helm and opens above to the windshield, providing an open feel. Large panel doors expose the guest stateroom, which continues the open feel.
Large, sliding doors separate the guestroom from the galley. During the day, the large, double berth slides in to form a seating area adjacent to the galley.
The Master Stateroom is forward with the walk-around, centerline berth situated with the head of the bed aft. Storage cabinetry, accessed from the aft side, is flanked by port and starboard hanging lockers. This cabinetry also serves as a headboard for the master berth and allows privacy while the door is open to the rest of the boat.
The Master Head is en-suite and has a much larger shower than the guest head. It also has more counter space and lots of natural lighting.
The Engine Room is accessible from the helm, through the cabin sole. It has far more headroom than most express boats in this size range. The outboard sides of the engines are accessible as well. The tremendous amount of sound insulation is evident when looking at the thickness of the engine room hatch.
This garage was built to accommodate a Hunt Whaleback 11.5-foot tender but will contain a similarly-sized tender of a different make. Deployment and retrieval are one of the easiest in the industry.
