Overview
Launched in 2001, Whisper is the first hull of the successful SW78 miniseries: thanks to Reichel Pugh naval architecture, the yacht boasts slippery hull lines, a fin and bulb keel. General arrangement plan, deck layout and interior systems were drawn by the Italian designers Nauta Design, while the composite structural engineering for the cored Kevlar and carbon hull was undertaken by the UK-based SP Technologies.
Whisper is a cruiser-racer, ideal both for Bluewater navigation and competitive races: her deck layout provides a large guest cockpit together with a sunbath area, well separated from the sailing cockpit. The Southern Spars carbon fiber mast is the first swept spreader rig to be fitted to a Southern Wind yacht.
Below decks, Whisper features a classic teak-lined saloon with blue upholstery, a teak and holly floor and a white ceiling. The stairway of the latter leads to the saloon which makes use of the full beam of the yacht. This area provides room for a dining table for 8/10 seats, plus a conversation area opposite. The saloon is also provided with a refrigerator and an icemaker.
Accommodation includes a large and spacious master cabin in the stern, with one double bunk and a separate single bunk, a twin cabin amidships and a double guest cabin equipped with a bunk bed afore, all with en suite facilities. The double guest cabin head could be easily used as daily facilities thanks to a door on the saloon. Forward of the galley, is a three-pipe cot crew cabin in the bow. The yacht offers plenty of storage room in all its areas.
SW 78 Whisper shows an impressive “palmarès”: winner of 2009 Edition of the SWS Trophy, she counts on a I place in her division at the 2009 edition of the Rolex Fastnet Race and a first place in 2009 Mini Maxy Rolex Cup (cruising racing class); she also took part for three times at Les Voiles de St. Tropez, with a respectable 2th place in 2013. Lately, in 2016, she has raced the Rolex Capri International Regatta and the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta obtaining the 3rd and the 2nd place respectively.
Whisper was refitted in 2011 by SWS customer care. Engine (Yanmar 240hp) replacement, generator (Cummins 19 kW) upgrading, Engine room insulation, Led lighting system conversion, plumbing system renewal, propeller replacement, appliances replacement, interior carpentry repainting, rigging replacement from Rod Rigging to Carbon Rigging EC6, Hull, boom and mast repainting and deck sanding .
