Named 2011's Best Full-Size Cruiser, the Beneteau Sense 50 stood apart with its Dock & Go system and overall layout. Even today some years later the Sense 50? is an innovative yacht with many excellent design features, clever details and practical user friendly systems. She is easily managed by a couple and yet can accommodate a full family.

GENERAL

Hull and Deck construction

Construction:
The hull and deck built according to CE certification and as per standard Beneteau specifications at the time.
Monolithic hull in GRP polyester.
Monolithic structural hull liner laminated and bonded to the hull.
Deck in balsa and glass fiber sandwich.
Teak laid side decks, cockpit sole and seating.
Deck hull joint bonded and screwed, with 1 solid wood toe rail.
The bolt-on keel is of cast iron.
Twin rudders with s/s shaft.
Swim platform at stern with swim ladder.
White painted hull topsides.

Deck fittings and equipment:
Twin helm stations with Goiot wheel and steering.
Seat with backrest at each helm position.

Starboard Helm: ZF engine controls outboard. On the pedestal are: ZF joystick control; MaxPower bowthruster control; Olympic 135 Compass; Quick chain counter. Raymarine ST70 autopilot control; Raymarine MFD unit.
Port Helm: Shorepower socket inlets outboard. On pedestal are: an Olympic 135 compass; Raymarine touch MFD; Raymarine E90 screen/plotter/GPS.
Electric winches by Harken:
2 x 60 2-speed self tailing – aft - for sheets
2 x 46 2-speed self tailing – forward – for all controls
Set of 6 stoppers each side feeding to the forward winches.

Anchor windlass: Lewmar, electric 12v, at bow, with chain counter at helm.

Deck fittings and equipment:
Solar panels (2017) – these are placed on a dedicated stainless steel arch at the stern. They can be taken off if a new owner wants to remove them completely.  The arch for the solar panels are mounted with brackets on the pushpit.
Stainless steel frame for Bimini that extends over all the cockpit and can join to the GRP arch over the companionway.
Forward sprayhood frame and canvas.
Stainless steel pushpit, stanchions and pulpit with guard-wires and netting.
Opening gates port and starboard.
Carbon fibre boarding gangway, new 2017.
4 x mooring cleats each side.
Genoa tracks inboard on side decks.

Dock and Go System
Note:
Dock & Go was developed by Beneteau in conjunction with Yanmar and ZF Marine. It employs a powerful bow thruster, autopilot, and rotating sail-drive that are linked together by a software interface to allow pinpoint, close-quarters control by means of a simple joystick.

Accommodations and Interiors

The forward cabin has a double bed; reading lamps by the bed, and two drawers under the bed.
2 side windows with curtains and 2 overhead hatches flood the cabin in light.
4 lockers outboard of the bed (2 each side, fore and aft of the window); hanging locker to portside plus a small locker. To starboard a further locker with shelves.
Air conditioning controls/outlet portside.

A door leads to the ensuite bathroom to starboard with a head and shower.
Jabasco electric quiet flush toilet. Hand washbasin with locker over and mirror.
Stand-up shower cubicle with Perspex folding door.
2 x overhead hatches with screens.
Holding tank in the outboard locker.

A door aft leads to the passageway with a door port to the Guest cabin.

This has a double bed. There are 2 overhead hatches with OceanAir screens and a hull window, so plenty of natural light.  2 lockers on the hull and a hanging locker with shelves.  Reading lamps. Door aft from the cabin direct to the
guest head and shower area, which may also be accessed via a door from the passage.

The guest head and shower is fitted with: a hand washbasin; lockers; a mirror; Jabasco electric toilet; shower cubicle with folding Perspex doors. There is an overhead hatch for ventilation (fitted with an OceanAir screen), and a hull window with a curtain.

A sliding door from the passage to starboard takes you to the office/cabin where there is a desk unit and stool, drawers and storage. Cushions on board can be used to convert the desk into a single or double berth.
There is an overhead hatch and two hull windows with curtains.

Going aft and up a step brings you to the saloon, with the galley to starboard.

The saloon hosts a central unit for stowage and the television.
U shaped sofa to port with dining table.
Lockers to port outboard.
Hull windows each side with curtains.
Two overhead hatches with screens.
The coachroof windows have electric blinds.

Galley – along the starboard side with sinks, cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, good stowage spaces.
Opening windows to side and aft.

The chart table faces aft from the saloon with the electric panel and instruments.

Three steps from there take you up to the cockpit. Note:  There is a very large locker on port side, which is shown on plans by builder as an optional crew cabin and does have a bed … but …):

Owner Remarks

In 2015 I visited several Beneteau Sense 50 offered in Europe and finally decided to purchase our VOGLIA in Spain due to her good condition.

We spent 3 enjoyable and relaxing summers on VOGLIA cruising the Mediterranean with my family and friends. Sailing the boat several months every year from the Spanish coast, to the Balearics, the Italian coast, Sardinia and Corsica down to Sicily, we found the special concept of this boat just to be a perfect fit. Outdoor space and cockpit merge with easy transition (only 3 steps down) into the interior. The saloon is large, light and makes full use of the yachts 16 ft beam. Especially the large cockpit is a huge advantage for sailing and living in the Med.

For the last two years VOGLIA was based in Palma and serviced by Palmawatch, a specialized company taking care of boats when the owner is not on board.

During these years we constantly invested in improving the equipment. Beginning of 2017 we finally decided to sail the ARC and to spend a whole year on board in the Caribbean. Therefore we started to prepare ourselves and VOGLIA for this venture. The whole boat was thoroughly checked in every aspect. Furthermore we made major updates and improvements of equipment for the ARC during 2017, which result in VOGLIA being in perfect shape to step on board and sail away …. either for the long journey, or for taking enjoyable cruises in the Med.

But why are we selling our beloved VOGLIA without taking the long cruise? When sailing off this autumn we found out that my wife is pregnant. Our lives will change, we will not have enough time to enjoy VOGLIA right now. So we sadly decided to sell her.

The new owner will take over a well maintained boat and will benefit from all the updates and extensive new equipment. You can just step on board, bring your personal belongings and enjoy sailing.  I believe the yacht to be far better than when I bought her….
