Overview

Hull

Vineyard Vixen hulls are solid, hand layed up fiberglass with 9 laminates of 24 oz. roving and 1.5 oz. mat in bottom and 7 in topsides with extra reinforcing in way of keel and skeg.  The hull is molded in two halves tied together with 7 tie-in strips up to 36" wide.

Topsides were Awlgripped in 2015.  Decks were Awlgripped in 2017


Deck

The deck is hand layed up to builder's specifications with plywood core stiffener.  She has a 2" by 2" teak toe rail milled to fit over the deck edge, screwed and bolted in position.  Teak grab rails are bolted to the cabin top.  There is tan colored contrasting non-skid areas molded into deck and cockpit.  Large teak butterfly hatch over main salon and large opening hatch over v berth.  Awlgripped with contrasting non-skid in 2017

 Ballast

There is 5,200 lbs. of lead cast in 4 sections and encapsulated in the keel capvity completely surrounded by liquid resin and capped with a keel cap consisting of mat and roving.


Interior layout

Entering the below decks through the spacious companionway you have the wet locker immediately to starboard just aft of the aft facing nav. station.  Behind the companionway ladder is functional Formica galley counter top with varnished teak fiddle under which is the engine. Moving port into the galley you find a stainless steel sink followed by a custom removable maple cutting board.  Under is a newer  (2016) 12v Sea Frost refrigerator with removable shelf. Moving forward there is a 3 burner CNG gimballed stove with outboard cupboard covered by beautiful ribbon mahogany. Just forward of the stove there more counter space with 3 drawers below.  The main salon has 6'6" head room and can sleep 3.  There are two settees port and starboard that double as large berths with the third being the upper outboard berth on port. There is ample storage behind both settees with extra on starboard.  the dining table is hinged so it can be stored up against the froward bulkhead.  A coal/wood burning stove is mounted on the forward bulkhead.  

Forward of the salon is the head to port and a cedar lined hanging locker to starboard before you enter the master cabin.  The classic V-berth is 6'6" with insert. There are full length shelves both port and starboard. At the aft end of the berth both sides have reading lamps and counters with two drawers a piece.  There are eight opening portlights, one hatch in the master cabin and an elegant varnished butterfly hatch above the main salon. The overhead hatches have custom mahogany screen inserts.


Deck Hardware

All hardware is stainless steel or chrome plated bronze.  She has double stainless steel lifelines and stanchions with opening gate to starboard; bow and stern chocks; 2 bow and 1 stern cleat; jib club pedestal; genoa track with slides; tiller fitting; travellers, both main and jib, black anodized with ball bearing cars.  All hardware is through bolted and backed up with stainless steel or aluminum plates.


Chain plates

1 1/2" X 3/8" x 1/4" stainless steel, each bolted to 3' long knees permanently laminated to the hull.  Bolts are 1/2" stainless steel.


Cockpit

The cockpit is a deep, dry spacious 9' with high coamings designed for security and angled for comfort and back support.The tiller streering allows for great feel at the helm.  A helm brake and Ritchie compass are featured as well.. Winches are on varnished teak pads with ample self -draining lockers.  
There is a recessed bilge pump.  Two large sail lockers located port and starboard in benches, with smaller gear lockers aft of those. There are off -white cockpit cushions and teak grate over the cockpit deck.  The companionway is extra wide for easy movement in an out as well as excellent circulation.  There are 3 varnished teak drop boards as well as varnished teak screen inserts.


Head
The head features a manual toilet, 2 lockers enclosed with mahogony sliding doors, stainless steel sink with spring loaded faucets, telephone-type handset shower with molded pan draining to a separate pump, removable teak grate.  There is a clever double hinged door closes head off athwartships when in use as a shower or dressing room.


Exterior canvas and cushions

KATE has Sunbrella covers for the main butterfly hatch, compass, helm.  There are closed cell foam cockpit cushions covering the entire seating area. The dodger (2017) with leather trim is also beige Sunbrella and in excellent condition.
