Overview

This Dutch-built steel staysail sloop was built in 1980 and fully refitted in 1993 when her current owners bought her. She has sailed more than 20,000 miles along the coast of Europe, has crossed the Atlantic, has been to Alaska, and extensively cruised the US. East Coast and the Caribbean. Now, she is ready for her next adventure and outfitted to go anywhere.

Her construction is unique in that she is a round-chine Dutch-steel vessel, and she possesses the presence of a world-cruiser, with beautiful lines and a seaworthy demeanor. Her current owner has sailed her for 19 years and has cruised her up the Pacific Coast to Alaska, then back down and through the Panama Canal and back up to her current location. She is truly ocean-ready. She has been loved and cared for, and inspires confidence as a bluewater vessel. Among the equipment that makes her so unique are:

  • 2003 Universal 38 HP diesel engine with low hours
  • Rust-free bilge
  • Furuno Radar only two years old
  • Raymarine navigation instruments only three years old
  • Raymarine autopilot
  • Forward cabin has been converted to workshop (can easily be used for sleeping quarters as well)
  • Xantrex 1 W inverter
  • Adler Barber 12 V Refrigeration
  • 130 watt solar panel on custom arch

Accommodations

Entering the companionway, you will find an ample galley to port and a well-planned navigation station, with a swivel chair, to starboard. Aft of the companionway and underneath the cockpit is a large double berth with a curtain for privacy.

Heading forward, you step down into the salon area, where there is a spacious u-shaped dinette to port and a settee to starboard. The forward cabin has been converted into a workshop, complete with a workbench and bench-vise, as well as fastidiously organized storage. The cabin could easily be converted back to a berthing area, or could be kept as-is by an owner who wants to be able to easily perform repairs while at sea.

The head is spacious and is located to the port. All new plumbing and a new holding tank have been installed.

The feel of the interior is luxurious because of the fine teak detailing everywhere. This is a solid and seaworthy vessel, and feels as much. No detail has been spared. There is ample storage for long-term cruising, the boat combines comfort and functionality perfectly.

Some bonuses:

  • All LED cabin lights
  • Many fans
  • Deck prisms
  • Large Lewmar hatches for ventilation
  • Adler Barber 12V refrigeration
  • Removable cabin air conditioner
  • Propane Taylor 2 burner galley stove and oven
  • Folding dining table
  • Net lee-cloths
  • More-than-ample storage
  • Large and comfortable double-berth
  • 2 hanging lockers, teak lined
  • All-teak interior

Engines

The boat was repowered in 2003 with a fresh-water cooled Universal 38 HP diesel. Hours are low and the engine is easily accessible for maintenance.

Tankage

Tanks are integral and located in the keel, which is divided into three sections (the forward contains lead ballast, the central contains a 130 gallon water tank, and the aft contains a 65 gallon fuel tank. This arrangement frees up the hull area of the boat for extra storage.

Construction

"Saben" is welded 5mm mild steel on 1.25" angle frames and 18" centers. Hulled is faired and there are no hard chines. Her Dutch craftsmanship is evident in interior and exterior detail.
