Overview

Superb, stunning, sublime.
Summer Wind is cruising ready, having just completed half of the Great Loop. Built in Singapore to exacting specifications, the Grand Banks Europa is a real head-turner.  Sea-kindly and powerful with twin Caterpillar 3208 engines, this vessel can take you anywhere in any conditions.  Summer Wind has spent most of her life in the North East, which means a short, 4 to 5 month sailing season, and covered winter storage. That, combined with fastidious owners, makes for a boat that 'stands out in a crowd'.

This Grand Banks Europa 46 is currently on the hard in Mathews, Virginia.  It is a 2 cabin-2 head vessel with galley up. The lower helm station has excellent visibility and access to the starboard side deck through a swing door.  The spacious salon is light and well ventilated thanks to large windows all round. Easy access to the salon from the cockpit as well as through the door at the lower helm,  create good flow.

High bulwarks make the lower decks safe in a seaway. Steps from cockpit to flybridge are solid and gently angled, making them easy to navigate. The flybridge has a helm station forward, and seating for a large party, with a teak table at the rear and spray cloths attached to the stainless steel lifelines. A large bimini provides shade over the forward area and has an eisenglas enclosure.  The dinghy sits on chocks on the aft upper deck; an 800# crane is positioned on the starboard side of the aft deck, so dinghy deployment & stowage is simple.

Meticulous maintenance is evident when you lay eyes on this boat.
In the past year, Summer Wind has had extensive updates which include:
Bottom Painted ((1/20)

Fire Suppression Systems updated(8/20)

If you want to pack up and get going, Summer Wind is the ride to your next (winter?) adventure.

Interior Accomodations

The salon is most easily accessed from the cockpit through a large sliding door with storage cabinets immediately to port and starboard. An L-shaped settee to port is part of the dinette. The sturdy teak table, with drop down leaves screwed into the floor with butterfly screws.  To starboard is a straight settee with storage beneath and an icemaker and wet bar forward.

The parquet floor is in outstanding condition. Large floor hatches between helm and galley provide access to the engine room.

The lower helm station is to starboard.  Drawers below the seat provide added storage and a swing door gives the captain access to the side deck.  Instruments and engine controls are within easy reach/visibility - either on the dashboard, overhead or on either side of the wheel.

The spacious galley is port forward.  A counter, with overhead cabinets, divides it from the dinette.  Sink and stove are outboard with further storage in the dashboard which opens up, making use of the space below.

Between the helm and the galley, step down to the sleeping quarters and heads.  To port is the guest cabin with 2 single bunks, each with lockers below and a closet between them. To starboard is a head with washer-dryer unit (washer needs work), basin, storage, Vacuflush head (new tanks, pumps & hoses 11/20) and shower.

The master cabin is in the bow and is well appointed with remarkable storage capacity.  The centerline berth has steps on each side  and storage drawers below.  The head is to port and has a Vacuflush head (new tanks, pumps & hoses 11/20) & separate shower stall. A tall 'chest of drawers' is forward of the head.  To starboard are cavernous lower and upper closets as well as more drawers. An overhead hatch and opening portlights provide light and ventilation.
