Built to comply with Union Recreation Craft Directive (EURCD) to meet category A. The exterior hull gelcoat is a special Isophthalic resin and the outer laminates incorporate a vinylester resin and powder-bound matts with conventional longitudinal stringer construction above and below the waterline. The deck flange is upward bolted to the hull flange with 6 mm diameter bolts at 300 mm centers with sealant between the flanges and bonded underneath with 4 x 600 gM fiberglass providing a very secure watertight bond.

Underwater surfaces are all primed and finished with 2 coats of Interlux Ultra. Standard hull and deck color is white with a medium blue for the cove line and double boot top lines. The engine room bilges are coated with grey Flocoat. All other accessible bilge areas are coated with Blakes grey bilge paint. Bilges throughout the vessel are limbered into one deep central bilge sump.

The Oyster 53 keel features a shapely, low center of gravity, bulb type, lead ballast keel, that provides optimum stability and performance. The ballast keel is a lead casting with approximately 2% antimonial hardening externally bolted to the GRP keel stub with nickel-aluminum bronze bolts. The GRP keel stub incorporates a wide footprint area to facilitate secure attachment of the ballast keel.

The fully protected skeg hung rudder has a substantial GRP blade, foam filled, bonded to a solid stainless steel rudderstock. Three pairs of internal scupper drains which allow the deck to be washed off without staining the topsides.

An eyebrow detail is incorporated within the deckhouse roof, which, combined with recessed windows lowers the apparent visual height of the main salon. As previously mentioned, the hull and deck are joined with mechanical fastening as well as a GRP bond between the flanges. In addition, the natural teak caprail is mechanically fastened through the flange for additional strength. Built into the aft coachroof (aft of the cockpit) there is an additional good size self-draining stowage locker.

The stern design incorporates a integral swim platform trimmed with teak slats. Includes deck from aft deck and drop down stainless swim ladder.
