Overview

The Block Island 40 was originally designed by Bill Tripp in 1957 and a limited run was built in Rhode Island in the late 1950's and early 1960s. Convergence is the third generation if BI 40's.  Eric Woods of Migrator Yachts obtained the molds in the early 1980's, re-tooled them and built the first hull of this generation in 1985.  He updated the design using the same hull shape, but used modern materials (see full specifications) to improve strength and cruising comfort. He modernized the centerboard design, added ballast and updated the sail plan, maintaining the yawl rig. The Block Island 40 is designed for cruising,  with plentiful storage, comfortable accommodations, large hatches and many opening ports as well as wide side decks, high toe rails, easy access to winches & travellers from the helm  and a safe, comfortable cockpit.

Convergence has an unique story, her owners had the boat built (she was the second last BI 40 built) and used her for passage making for many years.  They love the sailing performance and sea-kindliness,  ease of sail handling and the 'liveability' of the design.  The centerboard allows for gunkholing with the 4'2" draft or with it all the way down, the 8'10" draft helps her to sail to windward with the best of them.
